That's freaky.

Riding in remote areas, especially at night, is freaky, too.

ok, so we can put a dollar amount on the damage - but i just hope no one was hurt, not to mention the frayed nerves from near misses.

so - be careful.

Beautiful area of the state. A group of us passed that very sign going to / coming from CFR last month....kinda makes you stop and think.

Deer accidents, that's one thing I didn't miss while riding in Germany. Here in the rural areas of VA it's pretty bad, but not as bad as in the area posted above. 400K+ in damage just on one road, geez!

I rode the Cascade loop about a month ago and didn't notice that sign but did have a deer run across in front of me. I was heading east on 20 and probably 3-4 miles before Winthrop. Luckily the deer started on the left side of the highway (giving me more time) and the car behind me wasn't following too closely. I was able to slow waaaay down to nearly stopping as it ran across.

Interesting ride that day! In addition to the deer, I experienced a hail storm, thunder & lightning (took refuge in a mini mart for about 10 minutes) and then by the time I got to Chelan 87 degrees and sunshine.

In 2001 the DOT started putting up signs in the Methow Valley urging caution. The signs tally the number of deer killed in a twelve month period and the estimated dollar value of vehicle damage from collisions.

"There was a holdup for a couple of days," said the DOT communications manager for the DOT's north-central region. "They didn't have enough zeroes."
