Time to rewinterize your bikes boys!!
A storm system moving through the Northeast is bringing a decidedly winter-like feel to northern New England today, producing several inches of snow in the Adirondacks, Green and White Mountains and a chilly rain in the lower elevations. The snow will certainly hamper travel today and could also cause a few power outages.
The late-April wintry blast is due to a low pressure system crawling northeastward along the New England Coast. The low is part of the same storm system that was responsible for the damaging tornadoes in the Deep South over the weekend, but the severe threat is long gone now. Instead, this system is pulling cold air southward from Canada, where the air mass is mixing with Atlantic moisture.
Enough cold air is getting into northern New York, Vermont and New Hampshire to cause the moisture to be squeezed out as snowflakes. Plenty of snowflakes are expected to accumulate on the ground today and tonight.
Higher elevations will see all snow, while elevations around 1,000 feet will start as a rain-snow mix turning over to all snow after sunset tonight. By the time it all winds down midday Wednesday, six to 12 inches of snow will fall across the higher elevations of New Hampshire and Vermont, including Mount Washington and northern Vermont`s ski areas. A few inches of new snow will also fall across New York`s Adirondacks.
