Changed oil and filter today as suggested in owners manual, was surprised how clean it was when it came out. Really didnt look much different than the new oil i put back in. Then drained the final gear, oil there is a magnet in the drain bolt and it was just full of black crap. Just wondering why they dont do the same for the oil drain bolt the magnet really picks up a lot of junk Wonder if it would a good idea to put one in????

I have attached a strong magnet on the outside base of the oil filter and hope that it will catch all the metallic crap if there is any...

Won't do any harm, but I think you've answered your own question :-

If the engine oil has metal bits in it for the drain plug to pick up, you're already in trouble. Just ask RadioHowie :evil2: .

Just my .02

The amount of ferrous (normal) wear metals in the FJR engine are few -- compared with non-ferrous.

Just the opposite for the sliding-contact, helical, ring-gear and pinion on the rear-drive....

Ol' Howie had valve heads floatin' around in there.. Ain't no amount of magnets gonna help him..

Then again..... Ain't nothing really going to help him

Piss warm beer Howie? I think I drank some of that Saturday  uugggh

:jester:

Per 03HiYoSliver's comment, I have installed a final drive drain plug with magnet in the crankcase with no problems. As they are the same size, I use the torque value for the final drive which is 17#'s not the 31#'s listed in the service and owner's manuals.

What you are seeing is normal.

OBD :clapping:

Curiously, one thing I've never thought is that your situation is funny. Even if you are a Yank.
Yank, what?, he lives in Florida

oh, I guess everything's relative...
Well, he calls me a Limey, and I've never been a sailor. It's all to do with common usage verses etymology. Or is that a bit deep?
