Doing a fly and ride from Elizabeth City North Carolina. Bike has less than 150 miles on it. I will need to have the 600 mile service done somewhere on my way home to Iowa. Any recommendations? I'm thinking western North Carolina, Virginia. Willing to go out of my way for a great service department but don't wanna go to far over the 600 mile mark before I get it done. Thanks.

There's a Yamaha dealer in Asheville NC, where I bought my bike, but the service dept doesn't instill alot of confidence in me for some reason. There are alot of dealers around, but I don't have much knowledge in them. Good luck.

I don't see why you couldn't ride it home. Nothing bad gonna happen. I wouldn't drone on interstates too much, as varied speeds/rpms are better for break-in. Probably can get that out of the way before you leave Kentucky.

That would put me at more than double the 600 mile mark. Am I being overly cautious if that makes me a little nervous? The bike comes with the YES warranty. How would going over that much look for any future claims?

If your dealer at home will be doing your maintenance, you should call them and ask this question: "If I show up with 1,400 miles for my 600 mile service, will you guys be upset?"

My dealer does all my service. They have never been concerned about me being late for service intervals, as much as 1,000 miles for one of them, but I always make sure they know that I have a trip planned and would prefer to bring the bike to them rather than anyone else.

(For those that may think I'm rich getting dealer servicing all the time, it's their pre-paid service plan and is set up where the break point is 10,000 miles per year. More miles than that and the rider gets the upper hand. With my mileage, I'm getting work done for about 1/2 price.)

Can't personally vouch for the service dept but Harper Cycles was a supporter of the EOM in Hendersonville a few years back. It is out of the way but the mileage is right on the money and the riding around WNC doesn't suck too bad
