[snippage]4. It is better than the 03, 04, & 05

[more snippage]
Ya sure about that?

My '04's front end doesn't clunk...the windshield doesn't whistle...the rearview mirrors don't fall off on the ride home from the dealer...the computer ain't stuck on 17mpg...the foot and leg warmers haven't been removed...and most importantly, it doesn't have the de-tuned '06 motor.

So, what's better about the '06?

Okay, howie, you knew that I would have to ask: Where in the world did you find that song?

Fred,

First of All I know the GoldWing community thanks you for getting to the bottom of the frame issues!!! I know if I would not have read many post about your efforts, I would not have considered one. But the Wing was way overkill for my needs and am in the market for another 2 up bike.

So we can Help each other out, I have in my hands $10,000 in Cash, "Hundred dollar bills" and would be happy to get that stinkin Yammy out of your way!!! :D No more than I will be riding it I wont even notice its short comings.

You are very right on alot of things the Yamaha could do better. I currently have 2 new GSX-r's. And you will appreciate this, to change the air filter or plugs, synch throttle bodies, it takes about 30 minutes to do all 3 of those things, and with out removing any plastic. Whay cant all manufactures design a more user friendly bike to do normal maintenance on.

Fred........Your opinion counts. All the other guys who poked fun...your opinion counts too. What a great country. Maybe Yamaha is trying to help support all those after-market companies by allowing them to improve on many of their designs. Anyway, thank goodness that there are entrepreneurial folks out there who will create and sell us these upgraded gadgets.. better seats, better windshields, better hand grips, and even better bulbs. It is too bad that we couldn't just make a day of it and test drive every bike we saw so we would know which one fits our lifestyles the best.

Anyway, I enjoyed a good laugh....and was glad that I wasn't at the BUTT end of those ribbers out there.

Stay positive Fred! You could always sell it and try something else.

Man, I just love you guys. Y'all make me feel all warm and mushy inside. :p
Do you feel as tho you've been initiated? It's a slow day at the help desk, and this is really entertaining! Thanks~~

WEELLLLL -

my front end doesn't clunk

my windshield no longer whistles

My rearviews never fell off and aren't loose -

My computer IS stuck on 17 MPG - but at least I have a computer

gotta tell you - the leg warmers are still there - maybe not as many BTU's as before - but they are still there.

Not sure about any de-tuning of the motor

BUT _

mine is prettier - for sure.

And THIS is how an '06 owner goes nyah-nyah-nyah. "My uterus don't work...but at least I have a uterus." :yahoo:

and

is why Yamaha chose the '04 color for their flagship AE model, not their "let's add some black tint to all that leftover Galaxgay Blue paint nobody wanted" bottom feeder '06 A models.
My uterus is bigger than yours...nyah-nyah-nyah-nyah-nyah!!

Seriously, I did hear they were planning on adding power steering & air conditioning next year

Since I don't have a uterus - and never claimed to have a uterus - I'm pretty sure that yours, no matter the size... is bigger than mine.

Now - should you want to talk ***** size - I'm pretty sure that even my teeny one trumps any one that a person possessing a uterus might have :yahoo:

Hey Fred,

I've got an '05 and...

Starting with moving the battery to where it belongs, under the seat. This would also enable you to have another glove box on the right side like most bikes have. The fuse boxes also need to be redesigned (larger) and moved under the seat where they belong.
The saddlebag latching mechanism should be rethought. It shouldn't take two hands to close a saddlebag. The latches never seem to want to line up properly, and I think part of the problem is that the hinges flex too much.

The throttle return springs are way too stiff and need to be lightened.

The seat contour needs to be changed. Most folks I know don't have flat butts, so why is the seat flat? Shouldn't it be cupped a bit?

The ignition key seems to be made out of chocolate. Coudn't you make it out of real metal that doesn't bend every time Uri Geller looks at it?
For all the dog piling you got... most of these have been discussed about the '05s as issues too. I don't know what engineer decided to put the battery where it is, but I guess somebody has to graduate last in any given class. Ditto for the fuse boxes. Most of the folks who have found the throttle return to be too stiff have released one of the springs. As for seat contour... there's a number of options. Make sure you get some additional keys made while you're at it.

I have read a few post regarding the guages on the 06, I really don't get it. The dial is larger than the preveous models, if you couple that with the fact that the 03-05 models don't utilize 360 degrees of the dial either, the difference between the 06 and previous models is negligible at best. I guess if you don't like the style that's fine, bitching about the space between the gradients just doesn't make sense.

I don't get the seat complaint either, it's pretty comfy IMO, it's not entirely flat, it has a nice feel riding forward as well as a when sitting in more of a sport position to the back. Hmph, it's even adjustable, go figure.

Lastly, the reason the battery is placed up front has to do with keeping as much mass to the front as possible. If you were to mount it down lower in the frame it would be too close to the exhaust, lead acid batteries don't care much for heat. The position up front makes for relatively easy access and allows for more frontal mass which keeps the front tire on the ground. Drive an 05 hard and you'll note the front end pulls off the ground rather easily in first gear. The 06 does not. I don't believe the ST 1300 or the Goldwing has much of a problem keeping their front tires on the ground, hence the battery thing wouldn't matter much to them.

You mentioned also the ST storing it's gas under the seat, correct me if I'm wrong but the ST stores about a gallon of gas in it's lower tank. It still has relatively the same amount stored up top, like the FJR.
