Al Perrett has the Kamloops Harley Davidson dealership. I've known Al for years but haven't seen him for a while. I was asking my riding buddies about Al the other day so one of them forwarded an e-mail to me today.

'Here's a little up-date about a buddy of mine named Al Perrett. He has been down in baja the last couple of weeks, and he entered himself in the baja 500 offroad race. It's more like the baja 500 miles of big assed whoops race, but I digress. Well he and his 2 friends won their over 60 class (over 60 years old to qualify for this class) in this almost 500 mile long race. Al is 74 years old! one of his team mates Richard jackson is my best guess at least 65 years old. his 3rd rider I'm not sure, but you can bet he is over 60. These boys also won the san felipe 250 Over 60 class race this past march. now don't think that these guys are old and slow, just cause they are racing the 60 class and all their competition just pulled over and went for a nap. their race times( elapsed time from when they start till they cross the finish line) have been fast enough to put them in the top 5 of the 50,40 and usually the 30 pro classes as well! So Al has 2 wins out of three so far this year, and he is going for the SCORE class championship. If/when they win the baja 1000 this november, Al Perrett will be the oldest man to EVER have won a class championship #1 plate in SCORE's history! He's taking a little time off after that, and riding with a few buddies -to the tip of south america on klr 650's. that is scheduled for 3 months starting in december of 2012. when he gets back and after his 75th birthday in the summer of 2013, he is planning on racing the baja 1000 again in the fall/november of 2013! That will put him as the OLDEST entrant EVER to sign up for the baja 1000. Next to the dakar, the baja 1000 is considered by most to be the second toughest offroad race in the world. So just when you were thinking- well i'm fiddy something,i should give up play riding and take up lawn bowling or crib or sumpn', stop and tip your hat/toupee to Al when he is racing the baja 1000 at 75 years young!!'

Nice to know we have a motorcycle celebrity here :)

Al.
