A Good Day to All,

As Christmas and the New Year all too quickly approach, I like many others, can't help but reflect on the past year. While this year didn't pan out as I had planned (taking that bike trip and making my first 1000/24hr) the year overall was good. Life just has a way of reminding us of it's finality and responsibility. I did manage a drive out west Cali way, 1600 miles in 26 hours, Had to get wife home for her Step Fathers funeral. She comes from a large family, it was good to see her family in spite of the situation. Then I spent the rest of the summer attending a few family funerals here, they were good folks and are missed. It's an unfortunate part of life that the only time family gets together is for marriages and funerals. How is it we let time get away from us?

It's at this point that I would like to make this public "Thank You". A hearty thanks to all of you forum members who share their rides and life on this forum. I spent most of my free time the rest of this summer living through your rides, admiring the photos and reports. If this forum doesn't have a "Pulitzer" for outstanding reporting on Roads, Curves, Camping, Lodging and Food **** there should be. Dreaming of the road ahead got me through many long hard nights here at this MSHA **** hole. For that I Thank You.

The one bright spot was my wife, Rosaura, and me taking a trip this Thanksgiving. As I mentioned in my Thanksgiving post/request, what was a well planned out trip to West Texas with friends fell apart in the days leading up. We ended up in Baton Rouge and Lafayette Louisiana, with help we found good places to eat and visit. made my wife very happy. Louisiana is a beautiful state, but then every state is when you take the time to look. We were driving down La Hwy 10, stopped on the side of the road in a town called Dido so Rosaura could grab a snack out of the back of the car. While sitting there, a farmer/land owner from across the road ( Mr. Cloud) came out to see if we were "broke down" and needed help. I explained we were just taking in the sites. After a brief conversation Mr. Cloud asked if I ate greens cause he had a bunch Turnips planted over there, pointing to the opposite road side, and were welcome to take as many as we wanted. Not wanting to insult him by refusing his kind gesture I followed him across the way where he had a sizable area on the road side planted with Turnips. With his help we filled up a grocery bag, the greens didn't survive the trip but the turnips sure did. This past Saturday I made them part of a Black Eyed Pea soup.........tasty. I've been lucky to have spent time in many a different place, no matter where you go, when you take the time to listen and engage people you will find good folks where ever you go

Finally I would like to give a thanks to Redfish Hunter, Parrin's was a blast, my wife loved the food and by chance, the post game crowd. I spent the night talking to a lovely couple at the bar. My wife thanks you for getting her name right, she was very impressed. Its a shame we couldn't meet up, would like to shake your hand some day Sir.

It's funny how a trip out of town can give you a whole new perspective, the day after we got home I went out on a ride. This time I headed in a direction a had never taken before. Had the best day of riding since I bought the bike. Was the only one on this stretch of road, nice curves and straight parts. Discovered one problem with the bike however, every time I looked down at the gauges she was doing rolling around 120............but a very sweet and steady 120.

Best wishes to all this holiday season. A Very Merry Christmas and a Safe and Happy New Year

Be Good, Be Safe

Daniel

Funny how so many are so quick to complain, but so few take the time to be thankful. That says a lot about a man. Do you get a chance to read the world's most insane ride report in July? CLICKY

I titled it Coast to coast in 48 hours.

Gary

A public "your welcome". Lots of great folks around this place willing to offer advise on good roads, places to eat, sleep and just general help with most anything.

Some years ago while staying at a motel I was talking with the owner and she commented how people on motorcycles were the most pleasant guests she has. I replied that because we are doing what we love. Nothing beats a good ride to clear the mind and help us remember how blessed we really are. Merry Christmas to you and yours.

Without getting too mushy, here is a public "You're Welcome".

When I first got here all I needed was information. I did not need or want "Internet Friends". Soon that was out the window and I started wishing I could visit with some of the characters on this forum. I have been fortunate to meet a few and they have improved both my riding and my life. When you make a friend that you can then share with your Dad, you have met someone worthwhile. I intend to meet some more of these folks as time and money allows.

In 1965 a lady named Beverly Cleary wrote a children's book titled, "The Mouse and the Motorcycle". The book was based on the premise that "Motorcycle People" can talk and communicate regardless of language or even species. Their love of motorcycles gives them a common bond that is bigger than their differences. I have found almost without fail that Mrs. Cleary knew what she was writing about back in the early '60s and it is even more true today.

I have been fortunate enough to do a small amount of traveling and I have found beautiful and interesting things and people everywhere I have been. Every part of this wonderful world has something to offer. How much good you see depends not just on where you are, it depends on who you are. Once you return home, you see things differently. Your perspective changes and you can enjoy what was once boringly familiar by seeing it in a different light. Travel is a positive thing. I have made up my mind to make more of an effort to see some fellow forum members on my travels.

Daniel, I am pleased that you and your wife enjoyed Baton Rouge. I unfortunately had to attend a funeral service at the exact time you arrived and then we had communication issues that prevented us meeting. Fortunately, the world still turns and there are still (hopefully) enough tomorrows left that you and I will shake hands in person one day.
