Last week we went on a hike on the mesa trail (see vid section) Although we had a good time it is one I wish we wouldn't have done. It was very harsh terrain with volcanic rocks & not much of a trail on top where I stepped on a thorn that went through me boot, but not far into my foot thankfully, Duchess also had a thorn in her foot.

On the way down I slipped on some loose rocks & caught myself on a big volcanic rock which sliced a cut in my hand.

That nite Duchess was acting funny & ran under the bed . The next few days it became obvious something was wrong with her, now it was a 3 day weekend so I had to wait till Tuesday to take her to the vet. Damn I was worried sick as I thought she may have some illness caught form all the burro poop around that trail. To top it off I have a molar that began hurting & probably need a root canal. AHHH when it rains it pours!

I took Duchess into the Vet on tue morning & duchess didn't have a fever as I thought (with all the panting & disoriented behavior). The Vet checked her feet and found a piece of thorn still in there. Her pads weren't bad as she hikes a lot but inside her feet were very sore. That darn volcanic rocks! She got an inflammatory shot & pain & inflammation pills. And I got a nice bill (man they sure know how to add every little thing in a bill )

So Duchess is recovering & I have to wait till next Tuesday to deal with my tooth, which I will I'm sure get another nice bill. This stresses me out as I live on a small fixed income & my emergency fund is dwindling away. At least Duchess wasn't sick bad. Just had to vent!

Anyway here's what a minor slip & catch yourself on volcanic rock will do!

Well THAT'S ugly. But when I saw your thread title, figgered you two took a spill and you both got hurt. Sorry about your paws, both of you, and even your tooth, Mark, but glad you didn't dump the bike and get hurt worse.

+1

Come on Mark, that ain't nuttin' a little duct tape won't cure. Chicks dig scars you know.

Take care and chill with Dutchess, you both need it after the hike to hell.

**** always happens when you least want it to. Sorry to hear of your mishaps (both of you) and hope you both recover quickly. The squirrels will miss Duchess, I'm sure.

Very glad to hear your pup is okay. Root canals get a bad rap; not so bad if done by a competent doc. In the mean time you do have Duchess' pain killers.

Ouch Mark. ****! I'm glad you two are mostly ok. That's weird that that little dog would hurt herself walking on those rocks. Like others, I thought for sure you crashed. Glad that's not the case!!

Sorry to read about this, Mark. We lost our beloved schnauzer last month. It hit me a lot harder than I thought it would. It's good to know that u both will recover.

One day at a time, my friend ....

Glad the pup is recovering and hope the tooth work comes out okay. I know a lot about how veterinarians pad charge for every little thing. Just like hospitals. I recently lost my 18 year old kittie after spending $1500 trying to save her.

I am sorry you and Duchess are cut/punctured/sore but like others I first feared you had crashed the bike and injured the both of you. I am glad the vet found the thorn and helped the little dog feel better. I know how distressing it can be when a pet is not healthy.

Root canals are not as bad as they used to be. The science of dentistry seems to have made great leaps forward in recent years.

Remember, no matter how bad you feel...at least you are not married. Things could always be worse.
