Well I am going to address what Mad Mike said, details to follow.

Ah, sunday was a beautiful day here in Woodland Ca. And thought I would go for a short ride up to the Indian Casino and sit out side on there patio at there quick market. It gives a epic view as how nice it can be before the hot sweltering sun gets here. I pulled in and saw several bike and several people there working on an older HD a nut came loose on the drive belt pulley. They found a big enough socket to fit after going and asking a farmer if he could help him out, which he did.

I decided to leave after about a half an hour and head back home, the casino is about 40 miles from my house. So it was a short fun pleasure ride just to get out. Well on my way back the traffic was kind of heavy peopl;e going home from gambling and losing. I folled a truck at the posted speed for about 15 miles and made my cut off on a back road and cranked it up a little cause I wanted to get home had some chores that needed to be done..

I pulled into my drive way parked the bile got off and opend the garage door and started to back my bie in and saw no right side saddle back. I was asking myself what the hell happened to the bag? I answered I guess it came off. So. Fired the bike up retraced my route looking for one lost saddle bag blue in color lthat might be laying in the ditch or maybe see it on the side of the road in a thousand pieces hit by a truck or car. To my surprise I never saw anything at all. It must have fallen in a ditch and unable to see it because of the high grass that isa standing.

So I am all ok the bike was not in a wreck or even a tip over or a drop. Just one lost side bag.

My bags are always locked on, ( so I thought), How in the hell did it come lose?

It looks like a couple of extra weekends of work to replace.

But one good thing I am still going to renew my suspension I hope to schedule a trip to Oregon about the middle of June and have GP suspension do it front and rear

So there it is in a nut shell details that did follow. weekend rider :D

I just can get mad over this Iwonder why????????? Its only money

Does anyone Know of a right hand side case available out there ??

I almost had the same thing happen the other weekend coming back from a little trip. I left the house, went about 100 miles on the freeway and exited for fuel. While filling I saw my lock cylinder missing from my left bag. The asshole kid that assembled them didn't bother to use any loctite and the two screws simply vibrated out, allowing the cylinder to vibrate and blow up and out. The lever would have very easily had vibrated and blown up, releasing the bag in a few more miles.

Luckily I was very close to my destination and got tape to secure the lever and cover for the ride home. I replaced the cylinder myself using loctite and redid the right side, whick of course, had none.

I can't find the post.... but there's a post regarding drilling a hole in the saddlebag lower tab and the attachment point, adding a hitch-pin.

I did it. safe at any speed.... but I can't find the post with the pictures.

I'll keep lookin...

rickerster and kalaeria thanks for the info the pin is very good idea. K glad you did not loose your saddle bag

I have never had one issue with the way my bike was put together the shop is a good shop I have known him for 20 plus years . I guess it wa my time

I am going to drill and pin here shortly after I get a new saddle bag.

There is one concern that I have been quiet about concerning the pin. The bags are designed to come off in an impact. I would assume the plastic would break around the pin in an impact, but I wonder if just that little bit more security might be a problem if the bag get's side swiped by a Harley on Tioga Pass. If the bag doesn't come off, the bike goes down and rider and passenger are more likely to get injured.

(referring to a crash that occurred during the Yosemite ride 2 years ago)

BTW...sorry about your loss there WR...I would guess the lock came loose as kaelarea suggested

Did the hitch pin thing myself after seeing it on Toecutter's bike. Take the rear wheel off and drill it from the inside.

I didnt lose my saddle bag, but I lost the top cover off of my brand new GIVI V46. :angry03: The wind ripped in clean off. When the new one comes in, Im gonna secure by using industrial strength velco or 1/4" hardware.

Well I bit the bullet and ordered the right hand bag for my bike today, from Univerisity motors at a nice cost of 405.24 for an 05. Also no lock included have spare to use.

Just so I do not make the same misake I am going to tie a rope around the bag and my neck so I will know when it decides to take a trip by itself I will know when it is leaving.

Another costly but needed work that needs to be done is the suspension. That will be done in June. I plan on riding up to Gp suspension have them do the work and do a little more riding in Oregon.

I am going to have to work a lot of weekends to russell up the dough

A happy but broke weekend rider :(
