I tried the Shinko Ravens last year, never felt confident in the twisties. Got a huge puncture in the rear tire leaving Murphy N.C., switched back to PR2's when I got back home.

Not a fan of the Shinko's

At least you tried them and then commented. Why the YMMV. I found them to be more than satisfactory for 2 up touring purposes. My riding abilities are no where near the FJR abilities, so I don't need every ounce of grip out of the tires. Thanks for the read !!

This just in...any rubber tire regardless of brand will puncture if you run over a sharp object. ;)

They tend to get a bad rap, especially from folks that have not tried them. Tires, like oil, can be very emotional for some.
LOL...yeah I know. I'm not a tire snob at all. Quite frankly I've run several different Michelin's, Dunlop's & Metzerler's on my other bikes and all the tires were fine. Arguing over oil or tires is complete nonsense. Technology is so good today that most tires & oil are good.

My FJR came with a set of Metzeler's and they were fine. When they wore out I put a set of PR2's on and they were fine. When those wore out I put a set of PR3's on and they are currently fine. My wife is not a trackday rider so the Shinko rear tire will be fine as well for her bike.

And people post tire mileage with similar setups and one guy gets 6,000 miles out of a set and then some other guys posts that he got 15,000 out of the same set. I don't even listen or pay attention anymore. I just buy whatever tire I want, when they wear out I put a new set on.

I just finished off a Shinko Raven 009 rear tire. It ended up getting 7,500 miles to get to the wear bars. Most of my mileage is commuting back an forth from Colorado Springs to Denver, year round, unless there is snow or ice on the highway. I had a PR2 on the rear before the Raven, and got about the same mileage(7,200 miles)and I am not good enough to have noticed any particular differences in handling. I am trying out a PR3 rear now, because it is supposed to be something special in the rain, and we have finally started getting a fair amount of the wet stuff. Good luck with whatever tire you choose, just keep the air pressure up and ride safely so we can keep getting your tire eval's.
