I have been riding about 30 years and want to take an advanced rider class. I am sure I have bad habits! Now I don't want to go in as the older guy and get embarased! Are there and materials I can read up on so I am a little more prepared? My class is the first week in Sep.

Thanks for any help you can offer!

I'm sure you'll get a goodly number of answers, let me start.

I took the Lee Parks "Total Control" class and found it very helpful. In fact, one of our own - 3dogs - is an instructor (MD). For prep material you can read the book of the same name. I've also read Keith Code's "Twist of the Wrist II" and Nick Isnetasch (sp?) "Sport Riding Techniques." All cover the same basic subjects of safety, throttle, brakes, conering, etc. I found all three easy to read, informative, and helpful. We all learn differently and for whatever reason, I found "Sport Riding Techniques" to be the most helpful.

Good luck.

I'm a fan of David Hough's Proficient Motorcycling books.

Here's another point of view - you're taking the class to learn new skills and get rid of bad habits, right? Let the class help you. Contact the organizer and see if they have any pre-reading that fits with their philosophy.

I don't see the need to feel embarassed because your classmates will all be people who have the desire to improve their skills. The staff are being paid by the student fees, so they would be smart to make you feel at ease.

Good luck with the class. Please post a review afterwards, that we might all learn something. And don't forget to have fun!.

+1 and +1 to both previous posts. I've done the Lee Parks school twice and love it. I'm sure I'll do it again next year.

I have also taken the ARC once. I don't know what the agenda is for the current version or the version you're signed up for, but the one I took was basically a repeat of the BRC (Basic Rider Course). A review of the basics. Not like that's bad. It just wasn't "advanced."

Thanks to all! I had not seen the post on books but did now, I ordered two! I will post back when finished with class.
