Tyler, excellent as always.
You need to team up with Mrs Big Sky and keep that deal going.

She will be in my ride report... and thoughts always.

Tyler, I was thinking that you and she might make a good team to Publish The Magazine

We ventured further into the park following the signs for Old Faithful... we lucked out on timing as it erupts about every 90 minutes and we arrived about 15 minutes before the next event started... we managed to find a space to tuck the bikes into and headed for the observation point... we were in good company as we awaited the big event...

Marie was like a little girl in anticipation and I have to admit I was too...

DSC_1291-X3.jpg

There were several false starts... small eruptions and everyone got all excited only to see the spout burble back down... until finally the big burst happened upon us... it was actually quite quiet amongst the gathered throngs as we watched the event unfold upon us...

DSC_1295-X2.jpg

And the spout continue to grow taller...

DSC_1297-X2.jpg

And then the spectacle was over... we just looked at each other in wonder for a few moments as the throngs began to disperse... like we had witnessed something special made just for us in that moment... it was one of those special moments shared with a special friend...

Back to the bikes and overlooking the West Thumb of Yellowstone Lake...

Until we found Rich/NorCalFJR and his lovely bride, Nikki... we almost missed meeting up with them but timing worked out just perfect...

Our route took us around the lake headed toward Beartooth Pass...

And the lovebirds took a moment to enjoy the moment...

Better with visors up next time...

On we went...

IMG_5300-X2.jpg

Based on our experience, the best time to visit Yellowstone is earlier in the day... later in the day, traffic gets thicker and slow moving and totally clueless drivers become more prevalent... after following one those clueless motorhome drivers at 20 mph and not heeding any of the turnouts, I had had enough and pulled over to cool down a bit and remember why I was there... to witness the beauty of the land and I wasn’t gonna let some ****** canoe ruin it for me...

We came across a few folks pulled over on the side of the road...

IMG_5313-X2.jpg

And slowed a bit to see what they were looking at... can you see them in the fields??

IMG_5313cr-X2.jpg

More views along the way... we had seen a couple of bison but they were fairly far away... Marie decided to stop and get a closer look but Rich, Nikki and I pressed forward...

IMG_5318-X2.jpg

IMG_5320-X2.jpg

Yellowstone sure is a beautiful place...

IMG_5326-X2.jpg

IMG_5332-X2.jpg

As we came closer to the end of the park, I was a bit disappointed at the thought that would be the extent of the wildlife sightings but not much longer along the way, we started to witness the bison... this guy was just chillin’

IMG_5329-X2.jpg

A couple more...

IMG_5330-X2.jpg

And then we came across a big herd grazing and drinking out of a creek running along the road... these suckers are HUGE and luckily we didn’t get stuck behind completely stopped traffic... we rolled slowly through and I snapped a couple of pics from the bike as we passed them... really impressive beasts!

We continued on our merry way headed for Beartooth... this would be an especially memorable run over this pass as it was one that I was supposed to do back in 2009 before I got sidetracked... I had ridden pillion with a friend in 2011 but this would be the first time I would make the run on my own power...

We stopped off in Cooke City to hydrate and gas up and then started our ascent onto Beartooth Hwy... it was a bit breezy and cool which made for perfect riding...

IMG_5347-X2.jpg

We were also fortunate to pretty much have the road to ourselves...

IMG_5354-X2.jpg

Just stunning...

Before we knew it, we had reached the Top of the World which of course has a store to purchase trinkets, t-shirts, and stickers... yes, I did partake in my part in keeping the store alive...

From where we came...

The wind was blowing pretty good at the top and you could hear this whirly-gig whipping around furiously...

DSC_1332-X2.jpg

We didn’t dilly dally too long as we knew our friends were gathering in Red Lodge and were looking forward to seeing them... so on we went over the spectacular Beartooth Hwy...

The downhill section... wheeeeee!!

We arrived at the motel and could see that there were a good many folks who had already arrived... I found my room pretty quickly... so named for the ladies that would be sharing the suite for the weekend and in memory of our Hubba Hubba Master... I'm sure this would have been his favorite room to visit...

I unloaded, had a quick shower to freshen up, and then headed into town with a few folks for dinner at a Mexican place called Bogart’s... one of my very favorite parts of these gatherings is seeing friends from all over the US and picking up like it was yesterday that we had seen each other...

IMG_5381-X2.jpg

I also got to see a friend who used to live in the Bay Area but moved to WY a couple of years ago, Nick (aka Moose which you can understand how he got that nickname by the size of his paws!) which was an added treat for the day...

When I die, and reincarnated, I want to come back as Tyler!

Well done Tyler, well done indeed! :good:

Great stuff, as always T. I look forward to the day when I can get a good DSLR. Your photos make all mine, from my first digital dinosaur, look like crap. Your pics are always so vibrant and colorful. Awesome, awesome stuff!! Look forward to seeing all your NAFO pics as well. And for WIW, sorry about the job loss. Just enjoy the time off, while you have it.

Hugs,

Gary

I love the road shots of Beartooth pass. I want to be there on my bike NOW.

On popular scenic roads, national parks, etc., sometimes I get conflicted on the bike with the traffic. On the one hand, I want to be able to stop often and look around. I want to breathe in and really absorb the environment. But OTOH, if there is a lot of traffic, with limited opportunities to pass the RV train going 20 under, I sometimes pass up stopping opportunities. I don't want to get stuck behind the RV train AGAIN. Gear up and gear down - put it on, take it off. I know that this line of thinking is stupid. Take your time - enjoy, scratch, and sniff. But admittedly sometimes, I get caught up in it.

Your pictures show a mostly desolate road - a perfect riding day. I can just feel any inkling of tension melted away.

Envious to be absolutely sure.

This picture makes me smile, it makes me think of the time in the back seat of Dad's 56 Olds driving thru at dusk and seeing the wild life and folks fly fishing. I wish I could have that memory in a photo taken by you! That was the year Earthquake Lake was formed, we had camped at Rock Creek just a few days before.

This picture seems so Idyllic, no force to it and so peaceful. It's amazing how something so peaceful can be so powerful as just a few mile north is the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone and the three water falls. https://www.yellowstonepark.com/3-waterfalls-of-the-grand-canyon-of-yellowstone/

Keep on taking me on these rides Tyler, they are enjoyed.
