A scary thought came to me while 45miles into my reserve on the freeway. What happens at speed on the AE if you run out of gas? Does it pull in the clutch automatically, or simply stay engaged and engine brake while you're in the fast lane in traffic?

The speculation and comments should be interesting.

Wow, that's a good question. I hope never to find out, personally. I would wager that it just engine brakes until you are below 1300 RPM, then you get to coast. Good reason NOT to downshift under those circumstances, to get the clutch to pull in and coast. That way, you can keep what little speed she still has left to get out of the way.

Mostly, glad to know you can go 45 into reserve. My record on the AE (only on the second tank of gas that I purchased) is 20 miles into the flashy F. I have been that far into the reserve on my '04, though.

Different scenario... cutting electrical and running outta gas are two different things. Cutting the electrics would have an effect on the electric shifter - I would think - versus running outta gas with electric still up, no?

Does it kill ALL the electrics? Or is it just ignition? Hmmm...lemme go see what my '04 does...

Okay, I'm back. Fired up the battlecruiser, turned on the 4-way, headlight on high. Hit the kill switch, 4-way and headlights remained on.

It's gonna take someone with an AE to answer this one, I'm afraid.

Too bad you couldn't be of more help on this one, Howie. Well, look at the bright side; you just increased your post count. :****:

TWN, I hit the kill switch by mistake recently on the AE and the motor just stops running until you turn it back on. No gearing down or any drastic change to the motion of the bike. This also applies to my 05 which I have also had the kill switch stop the motor.

Well, there ya go, then! Thanks, Dave!

I am just a fountain of knowledge, HUH<LOL>. My Dear old deceased Dad used to tell me "Son stupid people do stupid things." I have to admit hitting the kill switch at WARP 8 is pretty stupid and I have done more than twice. :clapping:
