I had a problem with the mounting bracket on my 06 AE with the shift actuator mount. The mount came loose, broke the welds and was flopping around, and obviously not shifting the way it should. I took it apart, drilled three holes in the subframe and mounted it solid. That all went well, I put it back together and took it out yesterday and it was shifing great untill I came home from work yesterday, I got a shift code 51 and it wouldn't shift at all. The clutch doesn't work so as you slow and brake the bike will just stall. I'm still getting the shift code 51, I can manually push the shift acutater into N and start it , then I get the bike rolling and shift into first. It was an interesting trip home in first gear, trying to time the lights becouse the clutch won't disingage so you are constantly in gear. Only had to actually stall it once and consideing the distance in rush hour traffic it's good I made it. Thanks to a little lane splitting. lol. It wasn't something I usually am doing. I have been reading and there seems to be a issue with the mount for the 06 shift acutators and I'm not really sure what to do from here. I'm going to try and blead the clutch tomorrow, and would like any imformation anyone has on that. It's home at least and hopefully I can figure out what's going on. The shift acutator is solid, it's bolted down and solid but I'm a little puzzled becouse it was working great for a few hundred miles and now seems to be an issure. It is possible that some air got inot the clutch resevoir when I was working on it and that's the issue, it's monted on the plastic houseing over the air filter that had to be removed. If anyone has any idea's or experiance with any of this I would appreciate any input that you have. Thanks, Murray

Since the shift bracket is part of a Yamaha recall why not let the dealer fix both the bracket and the code Sh 51 that happened in conjunction with the bracket failure.

Not sure if you saw this post from another recent 06 owner and his Code 51 issue.... Here
Thanks Scotty, I wasn't aware of the recall or problems, I've contacted Yamaha canada and the dealer I bought it from so maybe there will be some resolution with them. It's gonna get pretty pricey if I have to find a subframe and actuater somewhere. At least the best riding is over around here for awhile and I can get if taken care of before spring.

Hope it works out. I guess the silver lining is like you mentioned this occurred at the end of the season, not the beginning.

Keep posting as this unfolds.

I'm going to work on two fronts, one thinking and working on a solution that doesn't require a $1200 acutator. I'm thinking I can get some of my friends at work to fabricate a bracket and try and make it work with the broken actuater mount. These are a few pics, they look exactly like the ones posted in the other posts. Weld bond was a dismal failure but that wasn't really surprising. I'm not sure how to clear the shift code 51 either even afer I have the actuater mounted again. If anyone knows that would be great but I'm thinking I should be investing in a service manual pretty soon anyway and that should give me the secrets I need.

I'm waiting for word from my dealer. I did stop at another dealer and found the bullitin, aparently here in canada they sent the part out to the owner, it wasn't an actual reacall. They sent the kit to the bike owner at the time. I've contacted both Yamaha canada and the dealer I bought the bike from this year and I'll see where that goes but I'm always a little cautious that it may require a fight to rectifie and most of the fight was beat out of me with my first wife. I'll wait and see, let the wheels turn. The dealer was going to do some reserch and get back to me. I'm a little hesitant to put the bike into Dealer Prison without knowing how it might go.

Why not use the previous example(s) to get what you want out of Yamaha and the dealer over the winter?

I'm going to do just that. It sounds like the dealer is going to send some of my pics off to Yamaha and see where it goes from there. I'll send her the threads from here maybe that will help. I told them there was already a case in Edmonton so we will see where it goes. I'll keep you informed about the progress. These are some pics of the inside of the subframe tube. The holes are from when I tried bolting the bracket back on but the long gouge is from when it broke off from the sub frame rail. I suspect it weakens it enough that even welding it back isn't going to be enough to keep it from failing again.

You can let them know that in addition to the recent Edmonton case, there was one in Calgary a couple years back (me!). Yamaha Canada came through and fixed it all for nothing even though the bike was out of warranty. PM me if you want all the sordid details.

It looks like Yamaha will fix it. The subframe is on back order so I'll be waiting a few weeks for that but the dealer will come pick up the bike when the parts get here. I think the other owners that have already gone through this have paved the way for me. Thanks

My Baby is fixed and home. Daytona motosports in Surrey picked it up friday and dropped it off monday afternoon with a new subframe, actuator and Yamaha covered it all under warrenty. Thanks Mammaha, Daytona and those that went before me and had a bit of a struggle like canucklehead in Calgary. I sent Daytona the links to the threads here and it seemed to be a easy ride for me and now I can afford Christmas. Actually Mammaha has given me everything I wanted for Christmas already, I'm so happy, now a little sun and I'll be plugging in my vest and getting a little ride this weekend...

I have an 06AE with no problems yet, sorry about yours, what I am looking for is detailed instructions for removing the actuator so as to get the air filter out without having to go to the dealer,it looks simple but I hate doing something without instructions as I am just an average mechanic...help please? email, [email protected]
