AE Shift Mode Selector Button Cover

My recently purchased 2008 FJR AE is in nearly perfect condition. The only issue is the rubber push button cover for the shift selector is missing. My Yamaha dealer says they are not available.

Has anyone had to replace this cover, and if so, where did you find one?

Are you talking about the button you press to engage the trigger shifter on the handlebar?

Yes. The button works ok. Just the rubber cover is missing.

Wow, I didn't think that thing could come off. Is Yamaha making you have to buy the whole assembly? It wouldn't surprise me.

The P.O. had a piece of black tape over it. I'm pretty sure I can come up with substitute.

Strange that an oem part is not available.

That button fell off of my 07AE as well. I have the YES warranty so I took it to the dealer and they replaced the entire switch assembly. I guess the $300 for YES to replace the $300 switch over a 10 cent button was worthwhile

It is stupid but I was not able to come up with a good alternative.

I found a rubber button cover off the back of a cheap flashlight that fits pretty well.

Not ideal, but better than electrical tape.
