Anybody running "Engine Ice" or "Cyclelogic" in their Feejers? Do they work, any problems, you know the usual questions. Would appreciate any feed back, especially you boys that ride the desert or the Gulf Coast. Down here in coastal Texas it can get pretty warm[100+] and a few stop lights can really bring the engine temps up pretty high. I want to pull the trigger on one of these items but want to make sure I'm not opening up a can of worms. Thanks in advance.

No.

We run EngineIce and similar coolants in race bikes that have marginal cooling systems and are often mudded-up during hot, humid summer afternoon showers. But in a bike like the FJR with it's excellent cooling system... IMO it's overkill.

Use a good brand of 50/50 Premix and save your money for tires. Coolant change once per year works just fine.

Yep, preparing for the heated summer here also.

I just did the "FJR Blowjob", courtesy of Warchilds, how to tech pages.

I used shelf 50/50 premix and called it a day.

One trick, if you do the "blowjob method", instead of using a 3/8 hose and towel wrap around, I used a Cheapo Turkey Baster.

Took the ball part off, and it slid right in sealed at the neck....and blowing was a breeze. Nope, don't use the super stuff, just the shelf stuff.

First time I changed the coolant, the stealer talked me in th the Engine Ice and there was little or no difference on the engine temps. If you are running on a track where they don't allow glycol antifrese then use the ice. Otherwise buy the green stuff.

I ran Engine Ice for 2 changes. The second was simply because I failed to tell the dealership NOT to replace with same when doing the major service with the first valve check.

If there is any difference between Engine Ice and a good, silicate-free coolant for aluminum engines, then it's certainly isn't enough to justify the increased cost.

I currently run Engine Ice as I did in my two previous bikes. It's expensive, like $17 gallon, but I had some on hand from previous purchase and used it.

My independent mechanic swears who is a Goldwing (and Harley) expert swears by Maxima Coolanol and only stocks that for use in his shop.

If I hadn't had the Engine Ice on hand, I would have had them go with the Coolanol. Follow the Engine Ice instructions to flush engine with lots of water, and getting out all the old coolant. Then flush with a vinegar solution, then water again. I don't believe it's good not to get out all the old ethylene glycol based coolant and then mix in the Propylene Glycol Base Engine Ice.

His son races crotch rockets and both say they've "tested" coolants including Engine Ice with their digital temp equipment on the race bikes and the standard shop bikes, mostly Goldwings, and settled on Coolanol.
