Aftermarket horn on a 2018

Has anyone added a air horn like a Stebel to a 2018 FJR?  I would like to replace the stock horn with something that would actually work!  I searched the forums and found lots of old old info, but all of the pictures were removed or the links didn't work, and the installs were all on much older bikes.

A lot of people have used the Piaa sports horn.  Quite a bit louder than stock although not up to Stebel standards.  Will work without a relay and can locate in the stock position!  For a 2018, you will need to run a second wire from the first horn to the other side - newer FJRs only come with one.

Denali split soundbomb works well, you will have to fabricate a couple of brackets.

This is a 2013 bike and I have copied this from a post of mine on another forum.

I felt as though I wanted a bit more oomph, I had installed the Fiamm Ultimate Blast on my BMW K1200GT and liked it so wanted something similar.
So I got myself the Denali Split Soundbomb.

This is not an install for the feint-hearted, the parts need to go in exactly the right place as the space is tight. I made a couple of brackets from aluminium and here are the photos.

I did a sound comparison test and the PIAAs were putting out 106 Db compared to the Split Soundbomb which gives 119.7 Db so I'm very happy with that.

Since the original install I have replaced the compressor and wrapped it in a ziplock bag to protect it from water ingress. The original was on there for three years before seizure.

Ditto.  I still enjoy beeping them under long bridges and in tunnels.  They do indeed sound like the old '69 Chrysler Town & Country station wagon my parents had.

^^^ I too have the PIAA 400-500hz and find them quite adequate.  Easy install and no mods needed. There are no issues with fork or fender clearance.

I have the PIAA 400-500hz slimline sports horns.  Work great.  I created this plug in play cable to provide power to both horns.  Also used radiator shroud mount hole with a bushing to and longer screw to create space between the radiator and the horn.

I use the FIAMM freeway blasters.  Had them on my '06.  It was a bit easier on the Gen IIs, as they already had two horns/mounts.  Had to fab a bracket for one of the FIAMMs.  Assume Yamma Mamma deleted one horn to save costs.

I am interested in doing the Piaa horn install on my 2016. There used to be a guy on forum who made a harness to add these horns. Anyone know if its still available?

This is what I did.  I was going to use a relay, but folks insisted it wasn't necessary -- so far, so good.

Relay - nah.  My 09 had two wires and I was able use the PIAA 400-500hz slimline sports horns without a relay.

To the original question: Yes, I have installed air horns... on Gold Wings. The FJR didn't have the space IMO and there are some "snail" horns that are as effective without needing a compressor (or the delay as it pumps up).

The PIAA Freeway Blasters come in a low and high tone. Install them both, use the OEM horn wires as a trigger wire to a relay (keeps any sizeable load off the OEM harness) and then Y from the relay to both horns. Tucks up under the nose where the OEM horns are.  People will jump when they think a big assed land yacht Buick is bearing down on them.

None of that needs prefabbed parts to do. A few feet of wire, a handful of spade connectors, and crimp 'em if you don't know how to solder (even sloppily).
