OUCH! Hope this didn't cause any drama when it happened. Also hope you weren't to far from home or help.

A staging nail was almost the death of me back in the tube tire days. The staging nail that I hit went in just past center tread on the far side and came out the sidewall just about like yours. The tricky part was that on each revolution of the wheel the nail would pull out of the sidewall then poke another hole as the nail head hit the pavement. This happened on a steep hill during rush hour traffic on a 4 lane undivided highway. The blowout caused the bike to fishtail almost uncontrollably across two lanes of traffic. I was able to stand on the pegs and dirt bike it over to the shoulder while all the traffic around me gave me the room I needed. In Massachusetts this kind of help is almost unheard of.

Oh its fine! Just need a couple of Top hat plugs! Since it is a double head; it will be easy to pull out! lol.

That sucks. Is that a TKC80? Those suckers aren't cheap.

Wonder if you could run a tube in that? Probably the holes are too big even for that.

Dammit Carver, wash that FJR.
Oooh, you gonna catch hell for that statement!

Ouch, hummm, chain, must be the weestrom..
Yep, it starts! :p

It is a TKC80 - although 80% worn. I'm going to try inside patches. With the amount of life left, not too worried about eventual sidewall fatigue.. Should I be?

Where on earth did you pick up a framing nail?
I have no clue! Noticed the last several corners on the dirt road home were strange.. knew I had a flat then but pressed on because a second class ride beats a first class walk.. :p
