Air fare - Chicago to Calgary

The only way I'm gonna be able to do CFR with the wife is if I ride out and the wife flies out. She won't ride out there on the FJR....

Air fare from Chicago to Calgary in June...Quick first search from google indicates $2350 (1 person, roundtrip). Even as a ballpark value....this is out of my price range.

Are these fares for real???

If so, this really spoils it for me...and wouldn't be able to attend. Too much $$$

Help me out here and tell me that I'm off by a decimal point...and need reading glasses. Please.

I haven't down a search for fares but that seems excessive for Chicago to Calgary. Try to fly to a US city with a Westjet connection to Calgary. Perhaps fly cheap to Toronto and Westjet to Calgary. Do a search for Westjet as they often have seat savers. I flew from Phoenix to Edmonton, Alberta, which is farther than Calgary on a seat saver for $96.60 US which included all fees and taxes. Do not write off the trip yet. Good luck.

I don't know the specific dates but I entered a search into Orbitz (leaving mid-June on a Thursday and returning on a Monday) and found fares from $352 - $641.

Try moving the dates of your search a day or two...I just came up with $428 on expedia...nothing in the range you're talking about.

Also, make sure you're using ORD (Ohare) and MDW (Midway)...some of the searches default to one or the other.

COOL. I just used June 17 /June 24 using the default orbitz.

Yeah, my search used that. I guess I found my calling as a travel agent.

...how much is gas/litre in that area? How much was it last summer? (it was $4/gal last summer in wheaton)

My Dad flies down to FL every year. A few years ago, Air Canada wanted $1100 one way. He drove 75 miles and flew out of Buffalo for $98.

Just checked Air Canada's direct booking website and got $338 + Tax for Thursday to Sunday. Interestingly, that price was for a US resident. The price for a CDN resident is $422 + tax for the same flights!

What do you like to eat? As for Calgary, Bridget & I can get a good meal $30 + drinks ($40 with a beer) we have also spent over $200 on dinner with wine...well lots of wine! I'm also known to cook up a pretty good steak! I'll have to refer to others for Nakusp region but I haven't noticed it being that much different when I've been through the area.

Calgary hotels are around $100CDN for an acceptable (IMO) place.

Don't recall the venue rate off the top of my head but it will be posted soon!

Gas is currently <$0.70/litre in Calgary. It was $1.30/L last summer but expectations are that they will stay low this summer.

I imagine that it's a few cents more in the interior.
