GOAZ Motorcycles of Scottsdale is presenting an evening with Alaska Rider Tours and other local veterans of Alaska travel.

1) Tips on where to go. 2) When to go. 3) What to avoid. 4) How much time you need. 5) GOAZ will have a spokesman from Alaska Rider Tours to answer questions and give advice. 6) Free Refreshments. If you want to attend you must call 480-609-1800 or Email [email protected] to RSVP. There is very limited seating and this free event will "sell out" really fast!

Old Michael: Mum's the word, My Brother! You know of we Irish Travelers, just Gaelic gypsies we are; never an even break!

We lure "boffins" with the free, delicious and ever so refreshing BMW Kool-Aid. After that we're In Like Flynn: Slainte, Mick!

Sorry, I won't be able to attend. I will be in Alaska on the FJR. Heh. Heh. Heh. Heh.

Bump Reminder: I called Steve Bittner at BMW Motorcycles of Scottsdale yesterday and confirmed there are still openings for Alaska Moto Riding Info Seminar this Monday at 7PM; no RSVP is required! Many FJR Forum are riding to Alaska in 2010!

BeemerD and Herr Marbach - I'm bailing on this ride, had planned on it being a week from now, my bad. <_<

I'll try again when you are back and seemingly sober. Have fun!!!
Toe, I've finally escaped the clutches of the evil Dr. Niehart and his cronies. I thought those Seattle-ites only drank coffee!!!

Wasn't as informative as we hoped for. They were just trying to sell their AK guided tours and providing no really great info!

One would be better off talking to Joseph-MCML and Bluestreek over a bottle of Scotch; they're the most recent AK travelers!

https://www.fjrforum.com/forum//index.php?s...=118990&hl= TC: I now consider this "The Bible" on FJR touring Alaska!

One place you don't want to go to is the Yamaha dealer in Fairbanks, one of my forks is still an inch and half shorter than it should be. :diablo:

Pack fork seals, that's one item that no one is Alaska will not have in stock, brake pads are also hard to source.

Pirelli Scorpion Sync on the front is a good choice for the typical roads up there, handles gravel, works well on wet pavement, hasn't cupped.

It's done Anchorage, Fairbanks, down the Alcan and east to Ottawa on a grossly overloaded bike and still has enough tread to carry me to Nov.

Darkside the rear, best thing I did, enough wear left to do another trip and awesome in the gravel.

Don't overload the top box, I have a busted rear sub frame.

Finding gas was not a problem

If you get to Denali take the plane tour

Don't worry about the gravel, you'll be an expert by the end of the trip.

Crashbars are a good idea.

Shoulders are soft, so is some of the gravel, thats why crash bars are a good idea.

If you have to choose between hitting a moving grader or hitting a soft gravel berm see above.

Ride with a partner, there are some very lonely spots up there. A spot is also a very smart idea.

Bugs in AK were light in June compared with BC and Ontario.

Bug jacket though is a really smart idea.

The best places to stay are the campsites.

Hotels is the summer are very expensive ~$130 per night for a motel room in Tok

BugR: Outstanding instructional, Chris! It had been 23 years since I had ridden to and from Alaska so I was a little hesitant to give advice to Toecutter. I rode up and back for the years 1983 through 1986 to work as a pipefitter and I knew things had to have changed in that long interval. But a lot in your recommendations had stayed the same. There you go, Mr. Toe!!

One other, sleeping in a tent in June and July is really hard, it does not get that dark, pack some eyeshades (we had some Air Canada freebies) it really helps.
