As far as tasteful and extremely functional farkles go, for less than 23 bucks, delivered, you simply cannot beat these saddlebag reflectors. If you do any night time riding whatsoever, I HIGHLY recommend them.

+1K This product from Alex is IMO considered a MUST HAVE safety farkle for your FJR. :dribble:

+1 on not using any water during the install, and going strong 2+years later. What say you Alex?

You MUST install them dry. I tested it with a water and alcohol mix, and it completely disables the adhesion. Here is a little insert from 3M's description

"3M™ Engineer Grade Reflective Sheeting Series 3270 with pressure sensitive adhesive backing is a durable material with enclosed lens glass beads, designed to be used where maximum brightness at night is not required and in areas of light traffic with little ambient lighting. Application to standard traffic sign substrates with a hand or pneumatic squeeze roller applicator"

It has a pressure sensitive backing, so if you don't have it aligned on the bags, you can "snap" is off the surface using a swift motion. (that is if you haven't pressed it down)

I simply align the top 1/2 of the decal on the edge of the bag, then using my thumb, I slide side to side working incrementally down the entire decal, and I’ve put on quite a few kits without any bubbles.

I'm in the process of posting a page dedicated to simple clean install instructions.

All I know is when I attempted to install my first set dry, I had terrible problems getting them correctly aligned and all the bubbles out. If I tried to pick them up and move them, they wouldn't come off the bag without tearing. Once it was clear they were ruined, I tried to remove them completely and they were stuck like, well, glue.

Based on my experience with tank protection film, I tried a 10% alcohol mix with water and that worked great. I could slide them around and get all the bubbles out. Once they dried, they were on for keeps and have been rock solid ever since.

BTW,

I emailed Alex because his links were dead. Evidently his server company was doing some type of upgrade which caused his site to temporarily go down. Alex got them straightened out and his site was back up and running shortly after.

I ordered the silver (fjr) and red (Yamaha tune fork) to match my Black cherry. This was Sat afternoon. Alex emailed me that he got my order shipped out that same afternoon on the last Sat truck out! WOW!! I am sure most here (who have ordered from Alex before) know this but I will say it anyways.... GREAT SERVICE ALEX!!

I peeled the top part of the backing off first and started in the middle and worked my way up, once that was done I removed the rest of the backing and did the bottom half starting from the middle down.

I bought a plain pair of reflective decals on ebay. After I purchased them and waiting for delivery I saw Alex's on ebay. I bought the blue ones for the Super, Superior, Superlative, 05 SoCal bikes, via ebay (Alex was selling them there) and I now have an extra unused plain set. Anyone interested? PM me.

They installed easily with no problems. They are sticking just fine after 8 months.

Very cool Alex! Just ordered a set of the blue ones (I hope). Gonna replace the plain one's I already have. These look great.

By the way, I'd really like to see something creative to cover the lower part of the bags that hit the road in a tip-over (severe scratches, both sides :angry: ). I am contemplating just spraying the whole lower with bed-liner spray but if I could just cover them, that would be cool.

...trying not to tip over so much...

I've done it both ways, wet and dry. Safest method is of course, wet. Use a body putty squeegee blade to work out the vinyl/moisture, and a hair dryer or heat gun on low to tack it all down. Just be sure to give it 24 hours to set, before running them after wet application.

IMO, if it's warm and sunny outside (above 70F), then doing them dry outside works well. This time of year I prefer controlled conditions and a wet application.

Or, you could just save them and I'll put them on for you when I visit.

Yep, besides the damp wipe down to clean the surface of dust etc. I put mine on dry as well....

Just start with a small section and work your way to the end, while removing the backing....

2+ years and still look as good as the day i put them on.....

Alex even sent me a replacement set no ?'s asked when the first set arrived stuck together.....
