I know better, but was tired & careless. The other day I was washing the FJR (I know, I know, a clean bike is gay) & rolled it into the garage, out of the sun, to wipe it down. When I let it down on the side stand, the sidestand collapsed & the FJR continued past 'the point of no return' and rested on top of my right knee.

I yelled for my petite wife & she ran out into the garage. We managed to lift the bike back up OK.

So far, so good. No injury to my knee or my back (or so I thought).

The next day the muscles across my shoulder blades & across my hips started to dance & hurt. This is the third day & I'm still trying various remedies to stop the spasms.

I had to remind myself the sidestand is meant to collapse in order to prevent riding with it extended. On a previous bike the sidestand was (by carelessness) left extended until I tried to turn left, & it's something I'll never forget!

Always check the sidestand is extended completely with your left foot before letting it down.

Bummer luck, man...I assume that you "caught" the bike before any damage to the plastics? Sorry to hear that you're a spaz...errr...uhhhh....having spasms.

I believe his knee turned into a slider. Mmmmmmmmmm..........sliders with hot sauce and a dash of pepper. Yummy.

Strained muscles heal for free. Scratched and broken plastics don't. :D

Sorry to hear the mishap. I read about this happening with the ZZR's so I always give the kickstand an extra little kick forward to make sure it is locked into place. When I lower the bike into place, I apply slight rearward pressure just to make extra sure I get the stand locked.

Glad you are not (seriously) injured! Alternate doses of Motrin and Tylenol every 4 hours. Don't drink any alcohol until you stop the Tylenol though...

Here's my routine that I try my hardest to follow without fail when parking:

1) Park on a level surface or one that is slightly uphill.

2) Stop engine while front wheel is pointing forward.

3) Release clutch lever and paddle forward until resistance is felt, then apply front brake.

4) Extend the kickstand. Tap it forward to make sure. LOOK at it when doing that.

5) Ease down onto kickstand.

6) Release front brake. (Engine resistance takes over to help keep from moving foward.)

7) Turn front wheel to the left until it hits the stop. (Bike will ease backwards some.)

8) Lock front wheel in full left with ignition key.

Because of the effect of turning the wheel (as in step #7 above), I make it a rule to never turn the front wheel straight ahead unless I'm sitting on it and in control of the weight.

I wonder if I just jinxed myself. I'll prolly drop my bike the next time I park it because I didn't follow my routine....

I have a routine that seems to work based on performance, but it mostly just consists of making sure the kickstand is down and the bike won't roll either way, espcially forward

Happened to me too when I was in a hurry and not paying attention. I do Dr. Bunsen's list all except for # 8.

it's happened to me. It usually only happens once, especially

if you scratch the bike.

That depends on your age In10. When you get to be my age

you need a lot of BenGay and Advil. :D

Oh shoot. Sorry, I mentioned BenGay. "Someone" might get

excited...

Before I got my FJR, I was backing a YZF600 into a parking space. Foot slipped on something (oil, gravel, ?) and over it went. I managed to catch the bike abt 1/2 way down but it was past the point of no return. It paused for a second or two and then went down completely. That afternoon, my hamstring started hurting and by the second day it was super painful. Lasted for a week or so.

With the FJR, I always make sure the stand is fully forward w/ my boot and then ease the bike over to rest on the stand. And, I'm very careful to watch for gravel/oil/fuel spills/etc in gas stations and rest stops.

Hopefully, I learned my lesson on the FJR Jr (aka YZF600).

Sorry to hear of the mishap. Sounds like you saved the bike from damage though. Gotta celebrate the small victories.

I always leave the bike in gear and pushed forward to take the play out of the drivetrain when left on the sidestand everywhere except in my garage.

One other thing that bears repeating; make sure you have cleared all body parts from under the stand foot before letting it down onto the ground. I know it sounds absurd, but one of our resident shadetree astronauts has already manage to mangle some toes. Won't mention any names....

:( Sorry about your mis step, hope you heal up. I almost did something simular a few months back!

My lower back has been bothering me all this time, just when I thought I was past it, riding over the man made speed bumps, repairing roads for repavement, my back is once again irratated!

For me it was a slow turn in fron of the garage, then a I thought i had the stand down, guess I missed that habitual move, any way i asked my brain where it was on that, one of those where were you dipp shi*****

As i fought to prevent the bike from falling, yes i saved the plastic, however it appears at the cost of a lower back problem.

i'm glad your knee seems to be okay and it is not your lower back that is giving you fits, heck, I have a hard time getting up after sitting for a while let alone walking.

I'm walking like I'm 90 when this flairs up.

That sounds complicated....don't park next to me, mkay?
We're holding a spot for you next to Vectorvp1. :D

I dunno?!? A committed FJR owner who throws himself under his bike to protect it  ....pretty awesome! :clapping:
