I would like to hear from anyone that has successfully used a personal radio on their ride with their intercom. I'm sure there are lots of choices if I want to use an auto radio, but that is a large item to integrate into my FJR. I've received an excellent Sony SRF-M97 mini radio but it needs an antenna booster of some sort here in NW Michigan to provide stable reception.

My searching hasn't found any miniature automotive radios. Any ideas?

Sing to yourself or go MP3. Even my Goldwings radio had a very short range. My Creative MP3 has FM built-in, but here again, very short range.

First post on the new board.

Try this for the antenna:

https://www.fixup.net/tips/srfs83/srfs83.htm

about halfway down he says:

11/02/02] The ground wire of headphone cord is used as antenna. If you want to add an antenna, connect it to the ground pin of headphone plug. The wire should be thin enough so the plug can still stay in the jack with good connection.

This may work with the radio you are using.

Sanghar,

Yes, I've tried that with little success. That site is the reason I looked for an M-95 and wound up with an M-97. Maybe I can hook the ground lead to the center lead of an auto antenna? I'll give it a try.

I use a small Sony am/fm personal radio fed into a J & M cb system with the integrator module. Most of the small personal radios use the headphone wires as an antenna for the fm band. Mine works well around town but on trips out of town it fades fast with distance from the station. One suggestion is to find one with a "scan" pushbutton. Mine doesn't have that & it is a pain on trips to find a viable radio station. Good luck.

Presumably you have to earth the other bit of the aerial?

This is a question, I have never done it.

Sanghar,

It wouldn't hurt to try that. I'm as rank an amateur as anyone, but I've read there are instances where the shield isn't connected to anything at either end. It would be easy enough to find out what provides the strongest signal. I just have to find the time to play with the radio.
