Just some of the pix I shot this past weekend @ Road Atlanta. There's a video showcasing the track to follow in about a week or so. Hope you enjoy both!
The Superbike class was dominated by who else.......Mat Mladin of course. Comfortable winner in both races.
Our buddy Ben unfortunately was outridden this weekend.
Even though he had a heart-to-heart with his mechanic pre-race on Saturday.
Ducati had a premier rider available - Larry Pegram.
Jordan Suzuki had a local favorite on their #23 machine - Aaron Yates.
And of course Aaron Gobert on his Honda (what has happened to him....he used to be a real charger).
And yes, there were babes.......oh, were there BABES!!!!
IMHO, the Daytona Sportbike class offered much more enjoyable racing than did the Superbikes. Both races were very close with the Saturday race shortened to 17 laps due to a pile-up in Turn 12. The mixture of bikes is amazing and the competition stiff. In Saturdays race - 5 different manufacturers represented in the Top 5; Sunday - 4 different manufacturers in the Top 5. WOW!!
While he didn't place well the Aprilia RSV1000Rs (this one piloted by Ben Thompson) were the prettiest bikes in the class.
Daytona Sportbike Race 2 sighting lap with the 1st 2 rows of the grid including:
Jake Zemke (#1 - Erion Racing Honda CBR600RR)
Jason DiSalvo (#40 - M4 Suzuki GSXR600)
Jamie Hacking (#88 - Monster Energy Attack Kawasaki ZX600), &
Chaz Davies (#57 - Aprilia RSV1000R)
Early in Race 2, teammates Jamie Hacking (#88) & Roger Hayden (#95 - 2nd place Race #1) entering the bottom of the Esses.
Ben Thompson being trailed very closely through the Esses by Race 1 winner Martin Cardenas (#36 - M4 Suzuki GSXR600)
I can't remember who was leading this pack up out of the Esses and into Turn 5 late in Race 2, but 2nd and 3rd in this line were the eventually winner Danny Eslick (#9 - Buell 1125R) and runner-up #8 Josh Herrin (Yamaha YZF-R6). Although roger Hayden is there (#95) and placed 2nd in Race 1, he faded out of the Top 20 in this race.
Winner of Race 2 (and 3rd place in Race 1) Danny Eslick and his Buell just before a major burnout celebration. YAY Danny!!!!!
Teammate Mike Barnes stops in (post-burnout celebration) to congratulate Danny. Yes, there are motorcycles in that cloud.
To see Danny's burnout, you'll have to stay tuned for the video (shameless tease I know, but it'll be worth it).
Barnes actually out-qualified Danny by 4 spots in Superpole, but could only finish 8th in this race.
Hope you enjoyed the pictures as much as I enjoyed taking them basking in the beautiful 70F Spring weather at Road Atlanta this past weekend.
