I Like Beer, IPA's, porters, stouts, pale ale, etc. I haven't found a beer that I don't like, some more than others. But the Dr. said cut down on carbs, so....., A good red wine, or maybe white. A good three finger pour of Pendelton, maybe a good martini, very dry, or a good vodka tonic. No discrimination here, But the best of all is O.P.

In my drinking career I never met a drink I didn't like but a lot of people didn't like meeting me while I was drinking.

My wife says I'm obnoxious when I'm drunk, but what the hell does she know. I'm a happy drunk.

Fred, I've known you for a number of years and you're no more obnoxious than the rest of the crowd

. Maybe your bride just needs to drink more and you are indeed a happy drunk

don't tell her I said that.

I am also a fan of the porters and stouts, though some are not so good. I've noticed the ABVs have been creeping up. One needs to keep this in mind and do the calculations. This craft beer ain't no Bud Light. The Montana Leg a few years ago allowed breweries to make "barley wine" - beer that goes into the teens for ABV. My current favorite, Cold Smoke Scottish Ale, is 6.8. Three pints of this in 1.5 hours, depending upon body weight, could put you over the line. Another with traction here is Irish Death and I think that one is about 7.6. Careful!

My brother makes that bathtub beer - he's actually getting pretty good at it. But it has got some kick, man. Two glasses of that stuff and it's Bye Bye Irene!

I am, unfortunately, going the other way. Up until a month ago, I loved beer. IPA's, porters, stouts, lagers... I didn't like every beer I tried, but it was rare to find one that I couldn't appreciate. I've been through Great Lakes Brewery in Cleveland. It's a great tour with a lot of history. I took a vacation a couple years ago, and pretty much brewery hopped around Portland, Maine.
I quit smoking in January. Everybody says that your taste buds come back after you quit smoking. I have yet to find a beer that actually tastes good. Terribly disappointing.

But I have't lost my taste for whiskey or vodka, so there's that.
Hey we have another designated driver in the making :)

I've been on an IPA kick for a while now. If you see Helltown Brewery Idle Hands, you won't be disappointed. They're out of Mt. Pleasant.
I have enjoyed some Helltown, although I don't remember the version. My favorite is good old Yuengling or their Black and Tan.

Incidentally, Helltown got their name from Mt. Pleasant's zip code, 15666

Stay thirsty!!

Stouts and Porters. I like the chocolate ones if I'm hungry, but IPAs and reds for Georgia summertime evenings.

Walked over to a little bar next door to the motel I was staying in over in Mountain Home, ID. I'd ridden quite a ways that day and was really looking forward to a nice cold IPA. I asked the woman behind the bar what they had on tap, she replied "just about everything". I said okay give me the menu. She went on to list Bud, Bud Lite, Miller and Miler Lite plus something special if you like a little darker beer. That turned out to be Michelob Amber Bock. I told her to just give me a double shot of vodka. Really disappointed!!

This thread could make me really blue. It seems as if I have developed an allergy to fermented beverages - beers or wines. But looking on the bright side of things, I can drink Scotch, Irish or rye. Over the past couple of years my favorite Irish is Green Spot, it's very nice with just a splash of water. Try it if you get a chance. Shouldn't this thread be spliced into the ethanol thread?

Only if we're going to Applebee's.

Great Lakes does not make a bad beer. That being said there are much better from Ohio. My personals are Brew Kettle's (Toledo) White Raija (IPA), Old 21 (Imp IPA), 4 C's (IPA), Fat Head's (Cleveland) Head Hunter (IPA), Jacki O's (Athens) Mystic Mama (IPA), Elevator Brewing (Columbus) Big Vic (IPA), Seventh Son's (Columbus) Humulus Nimbus (APA). But as good as all of those are they fall short of Great Lakes Rye Of The Tiger (rye IPA). Except the Head hunter. Damn Good beer and probably the best I have ever had on tap.

The problem with IPA is the high alcohol content. I can only drink two or three before I get silly or sleepy.
There is a movement in the beer world toward "session beers", that seems to be picking up some momentum Session beers are those that are low enough in alcohol that you can enjoy a couple and not get hammered. Do not be confused. A session beer can be every bit as hoppy, and or bitter, and or malty in flavor as any "Big IPA" (the last big fad) but you can have a couple and still drive home afterward.

Here's a list of some of the best Session IPAs. I would have to agree with them about Hill Farmstead. But you'll have to come to Vermont to get it.

Yeah, but what's the point? If I'm drinking beer, I'm done driving/riding for the day...Hammered is good.

Besides, it's a riot to watch Joe and Jon stagger around the parking lot.

Alcohol content is not a big concern for me either....unless I'm out and driving or riding. I know what my limits are and pick my drinks accordingly. Two beers are about it when we just go out to eat and I will ask what the ABV is on beers I'm not familiar with.

I really can't remember the last time I got "drunk" on beer... I have to admit I drink much more wine nowadays and if I am looking to catch a buzz, I'll go to the hard stuff...scotch, Irish whiskey, vodka, gin or tequila (in that order)

I probably drink about a half a bottle of (red) wine each night (if I'm not drinking anything else)

I really wish this explosion of craft beers occoured back when I was more of a beer drinker.... the amount of different brews available now are incredible.

Stay away from any woman who drinks more than one or two beers at a sitting. My brother was married to a woman who would have beer for breakfast. She went from tall and willowy to obese and went from sneaky and untrustworthy to being a total unprincipled slob. He is SO glad to be rid of her!
