I am looking to go for a decent weekend ride out of NV and plan on heading to the LA/San Bernardino area. Is CA Hwy 2 full of weekend fluff this time of year? I don't want to get stuck behind constand RV and slow weekend plodders. Any input would be appreciated.

As of today, Angeles Crest Highway, CA2, is closed going all the way across :( .

Don't expect it to open any time soon, either. In a typical year it reopens in June or so after the snow melts and repairs are completed.

I don't think it opened at all last year; in August it was still closed so I gave up.

Find Caltrans web site and you can up to the minute info on road status.

California road conditions are at this site:

CalTrans - Road Conditions

Here's today's report:

Code:
SR 2
   [LOS ANGELES & VENTURA CO.'S]
IS CLOSED FROM ISLIP SADDLE TO 5 MI WEST OF BIG PINES (LOS ANGELES CO)
- DUE TO WINTER STORM DAMAGE - MOTORISTS ARE ADVISED TO USE AN ALTERNATE ROUTE

Thanks guys. I didn't expect a pass so far south to not be cleared all winter. Heck, MN, WI, IA, IL, ND, SD all can keep their roads clear through repeated winter storms. Why can't Caltrans keep their roads clear between intermittent storms?

Depending on which side you want to enter the 2 (angeles crest highway), if entering from the 210 freeway, you can take the 2 up for a few miles then turn off on angeles forest highway that goes through and is fun.

Where'd I put the

?
