Hello FJR Riders!

Its on again this year....The Canadian Version of the Dragon Run!

This time its on Sunday July 8th come join us in Kingston for an awesome ride! Anyone who has attended this event in year's past can attest to some great roads and great people.

If you were with us in the past you already know how much fun this event is and for the first timer's get ready for arguably the best twisty / scenic roads this side of the famous "Tail of the Dragon" in North Carolina. Many of you have heard of "The Tail of the Dragon" at Deals Gap, N.C. with its 318 turns in eleven miles of US 129 and its legendary status as one of the world's best biking roads that challenges all riders to "Tame the Dragon". Some fellow Sun Rider's have actually made the trek and rode the "tail of the dragon" but let me assure you that this coming Sunday's route will generate just as many grins and giggles but without the bum numbing, tire squaring, 16 hour drive just to get down there.

Can you tame the "Black Dragon?" Catchy isn't it ? Well it's my attempt to coin a nickname for the very twisty and scenic newly paved road from Griffith east along the Madawaska River and through the Black Donald Mountains to Calabogie. The road may have a few less than 318 turns like the "real" Dragon, (although I personally counted 123), but I'm sure you too will find it very enjoyable to say the least and well worth the drive.

We will be leaving from Tim Horton's Bath and Gardiners Road at 9 AM sharp and heading up north stopping in Kaladar (some twisties), to Griffith (many, many twisties!-see notes above), a brief stop at Mountain Chute Generating Dam (bring a camera), then lunch in Calabogie, & then even more twisties, a quick cheese/curd stop at the Balderson Cheese Factory, then down thru Westport (and still more twisties) and then wrapping up at Dairy Queen at Division Street & 401 to give out the final cards and award the prizes.

In keeping with my local riding group, the Sun Rider's, motto of safe riding the primary objective for the day will be a safe and fun ride so when we enter any of the many twisty sections the group will spread out in single file with plenty of following distance and lane room. Those who know me know I am of the "sport-touring persuasion" so we will definitely have lots of fun but we will be doing it safely and everyone will be free to drive at their own comfortable pace in the twisty sections.

Lets make this a great day on some great roads!

Here's a picture of the route below for the day's ride and it will also be a Voluntary Poker Run ($5) winners spliting the pot.

P.S. It would be helpful for you to confirm your intentions on participating this coming Sunday by Friday night July 6th, 2012 at the latest by replying to me via PM Message. This is so the restaurant can be adequately prepared/staffed for our group.

P.P.S. We have had some Ottawa and Peterbprough Riders attend and join us in Kaladar so keep this in mind if you want to do this as well. Our ETA there at the Hwy 7 Shell would be about 10:15AM.
