ACK!! One of the reasons Ben left the AMA series was the ****** up way they have 101 backmarkers on the circuit... would be strange to see him return to that mess.

OTOH.... he has demonstrated what he can do on a Ducati in WSB, so... who knows.... he's always been one of my favorite racers, so I think I'd be happy to see him back here. The main thing is to get on a competitive machine again. The CBR1000RR has been struggling without HRC in the AMA series this past year...

They're proposing rules to take steps towards keeping the backmarkers out of the mix. They're proposing a reduction in the number of riders on a superbike grid down to 36 (except for Daytona). They're also proposing a reduction in the qualifying limit to 108% of the pole winners lap times in order to compete in the race. Additionally, they are proposing a restriction in the number of races a rider can enter each weekend which will keep the grid sizes smaller.

You're right, WC - he has often commented about the backmarkers, but, he was in a different place back then and I think he's matured a ton as a rider and he'll be able to deal with it rather than letting it get to him.

While the Duc is competitive, I don't know that it is that much better than a 1000RR. EBoz was struggling with the handling all year. A few times he nailed it and was able to give good results, but, on the other hand, there were a few weekends that he couldn't keep up with pseudo-privateer Josh Hayes.

All I know is that I'll enjoy the 2006 season a lot more now that there will be more factory riders on the grid. I just hope Yamaha comes through to run the premiere series (contrary to previous reports).

I don't know if the AMA could screw things up worst. With four races every weekend (superbike, supersport, formula extreme, and superstock), you would think they could take most of the privateers and run them in a separate class so we could see some real racing action between these guys. Give them a real race and a way of gaining experence to move up. And keep everybody on the same page in the premiere class.

If there is anything that makes AMA racing seem rinky-dink, it's when the leaders start lapping people about 1/3 of the way through the race. It's dangerous and it tends to make it easier for a leader to extend their lead.

But what should we expect from the brain trust that came up with "Supercross" and "Supercross Lite" for the two classes in Supercross and Motocross?

The problem with having all of the privateers in their own class, that would leave, in the case of 2005, the premiere class with only 7 people (2 Honda, 3 Suzuki, 2 Ducati). Pretty boring if you ask me.

Unfortunately, the AMA is very successful in spite of itself.

Gary Edmonson was the only one that had a chance to create a premiere-style series when he tried to split off from the AMA and create NASB. However, that quickly went to the courts and, even though he was found in favor and got a $3M judgement, his series never materialized and the AMA came out ahead.

Speaking of having them all together and laping.

I am not a big car race fan but I was flipping channels and came across a race that I thought was pretty cool.

It had like 3 or 4 different types of cars like Porsche, Audi, and like Formula cars and such all racing together. I don't know if it was a LeMans Race or what but I thought having them all on the same track made for some pretty interesting stuff.

Probably LeMans Endurance Series or American LeMans Series.

Yea, that looks like it.

Pretty cool race and I think it added another obsticle for the faster cars having to get around the slower. They do it so fast though they make it look easy...

Look at Arena Cross or Motocross and the leaders are always lapping the slower riders but hey they all have to do it and it gives the second place guys a chance to catch up. People like Carmichael who is so fast this is the only chance some have is to hope he gets caught lapping someone...
