Well .... this hurt. Dropped (tipped over?) my FJR today. Took a two day solo ride along the NC & VA state line. Stopped at an old closed country store to check my map. Found some asphalt not covered in gravel, put in neutral, put the kick stand down, unplugged Gerbing heated gear, put back in first gear, turned engine off, put my left foot up against the kick stand to make sure it was secure, hand on brake, then........ swung right leg over to dismount....... next thing I know I'm heading backward towards the road (hoping no car is coming at this point) and the bike is down. At first I thought I had just "tripped" getting off. No such luck. Not sure what happened. Maybe my boot or pant leg pulled kick stand away. If this is the case then my routine to make sure the kick stand is in the proper position may in fact have been my undoing.

Lots of scratches and paint damage but nothing "broken".

Dam!!

Double Dam even!!!

Sorry to hear about that. Glad you're ok though. I guess thats all that matters in the end, if you can get up and ride again.

Rubber baby buggy bumpers....rubber baby buggy bumpers...rubber baby buggy bumpers!

Dang, sorry to read our bad news. Plastic can be repainted easier than bones can be set. Thankfully the bike didn't fall on YOU. As to helping with the embarassment, you're on your own.

Beal - sorry to hear of the mishap. Stuff happens, despite our best efforts. Hopefully not too much damage (and hopefully you have some sliders installed! :dribble: Just curious, what part of the va/nc line did this take place? (I'm in Chesapeake, and often take 168 across the line towards Moyock and Outer Banks). Jay

Jay,

It happened on a country road between US 1 and Hwy 4. Was on hwy 158 mostly In NC and Hwy 58 in VA. Came up from New Bern through, little Washington, Bath, Bellhaven, Engelhard, Nags Head, Moyock, South Mills and on west using Hwy158.

We need to meet up some time. I have a brother in VA Beach.

There you go again. Another defective side stand design. Second one this week. I think I'm going to remove mine. It's the safest thing to.

:)

No way!!! So sorry to hear about the ZSP (zero speed drop). Been about two and a half weeks since mine. You will learn to love again. I think stage two is denial. What scratches?!

Jeff

Beal,

Make sure that your at the support group on Monday night at "Haulin-Ashe's" house. Next weeks topic is "Hell No I didn't drop it, it's just freakin tired!!"

Just kidding bro, sorry about your mishap. Please don't disgrace us to fellow bikers and come up with a better story of how it happened. You lie and I'll swear to it!! <_<

I was lucky. Mine fell on the right side. I never get on from that side. I can't see that side while riding. Therefore, it doesn't exist.

Sorry about your mishap!

I've said it before, I'll say it again, I am seriously considering naming my FJR after my ex-wife....she never went down

Bueller?!?!

Uhhhh.....pardon me, but wouldn't Zero Speed Drop be ZSD?

I am soooo confused............

This represent one of two scenarios:

1. He refers to the British term for such an event being a 'Prang'.

2. The D and the P sit unusually close together on his keyboard.

The closest I ever cam to dropping the FJR was when a pant leg pulled the kickstand back. Now I tend to leave my foot pushing on the kickstand until the weight of the bike is on in (in most situations)
