I was so sorry to here about Boomer's wife Sharon's recurrence of cancer and my wife Terri and I will pray for her recovery. In January Terri noticed a change in one of her breasts and decided to go in for a mamagram. The results showed three areas of cancer and a later cat scan showed that the cancer had spread to a lympth gland and a bone in her back. If the cancer hadn't spread then the treatment would have been several sessions of strong chemo and surgery. Now the prognoss is chemo only for a minimum of one year to try to keep the cancer in remission.

Terri has never been one to have regular checkups and hadn't had a mammogram for well over ten years. She really regrets that now and wants me to warn other woman to have regular mamograms starting at an early age. Terri will be 65 in May.

Terri is being very realistic about her situation and will continue life as usual. These early strong chemo sessions every three weeks have keep her from playing her three weekly rounds of golf, but she is planning on getting back on schedule this summer when we return to Oregon. She has lost her hair, but looks very good in her wigs and the hair will grow back after the six strong sessions. She will continue chemo every three weeks for at least a year. Terri is a very strong person and is ready to defeat this cancer

We watched the Masters Golf Tournament this weekend and were moved by Phil Michelson's wife Amy. Amy and Phil's mother Mary were both diagnosed with breast cancer last summer so it was nice to see Amy and Mary able to watch Phil at the final hole. It is also a reminder of how prevalent breast cancer is at this time.

Very sorry to hear; all the best and beat that dang cancer!

Best wishes and prayers for Terri.

PS.: Terri, thanks for the warning, I will ask my wife tonight how long ago her last check was.

Jer - as you know it helps to have strong fortitude when fighting cancer, sound like Mrs. Jer is a fighter. We just lost Mrs. TWN lately (different cancer) due to non-frequent check ups.

Your advice is should be strongly heeded. Actually, Mrs. Jer's advice!

I'm sorry about the cancer Jer. I'll go ask my wife if she continues to procrastinate (I haven't asked about the mamogram lately, so I'll show her I care). Thanks for the reminder.

And to all the guys, get your prostate checked if you are of the age, and get a colonoscopy done if you're 50+. They knock you out and you never feel a thing. Colon cancer is not good and easier to treat when caught early (as can be said for all cancers).

Good on the Missus to find a positive in this Jer. Sending prayers.

Thanks for all of the support. Great bunch of guys and gals on this forum.

Terri is very regretful that she didn't have reqular checkups that would probably have caught her cancer before it spread.

Though this is heart rendering news that neither you or your wife want to hear, keep up the fight! The doctors don't know everything, and they don't know your wife yet. Things often happen that doctors can't explain, so keep up the battle! :assassin:

You and your wife will be on my heart...I know this is your guy's battle, but just know that many here, myself included, are on your side and will be cheering heartily for you guys! :clapping:

Jer,

My wife had Breast cancer back in '04. She had a mastectomy and reconstruction. She went through her chemo and Tomoxifin and now 6 yrs. later still tests negative. Last year though, she had to have heart surgery and had a rough time of it for 6-7 months. She is a fighter and your wife needs to be too! It's not easy on either of you, but she can do it. Brenda (my wife) is a firm believer in check ups and reg. maint. and the least little thing gets reported to her Oncologist/doctor right away. Your wife can and will beat this!

Jer, REALLY sorry to learn abt yr wife's condition. 22 years ago my wife had the same attitude. What I call the 'ostrich syndrome'. It turned out she had lymphoma..but we were lucky, despite the devastation it caused. From then on we were super careful. But it still came back & got it's *** kicked again. We had learn't our lesson! Your wife's advise to all our spouses & to each of us couldn't be truer. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure!! She is in our thoughts. Good luck!

They don't always knock you out! At least they didn't for the two that I've been thru. They did give me good drugs!

My wife is a cancer survivor, she will tell all the gals to do a self examination, as she rolled over one morning and found a small lump.

She went right in and they did a mammogram the lump was to small for them to find so they sent her down to Virginia Mason in Seattle to talk to a specialist. They did a small procedure and cut the lump out. They found it to be a vary aggressive type of cancer and then remover her lymph gland. The news was very good news, no cancer in the glands.

They did the Radiation and hormone treatments but no chemo. She has been cancer free 18 years thank God.

There is a moral to the story here, the ladies should do a self exam, early detection is were it's at.

Jer, tell Terri keep up the good fight and she will be in my prayers.

goin' right now to ask the AIW (angelic italian wifey) about mamogram...she's 51, same as me and this is real important.

Every visit to my PCP, I ask her about the colonoscopy and since I'm on medicare and go to a free Catholic Charities clinic, I'm sorta in a line for available procedures. I'm gonna make a stink since June is my next quarterly visit and I first asked about it in March '09 after I made 50.

Need her to do a complete physical next visit also.

Thanx Jer and Terri for lighting a fire under this Old Geezer *** to better take care of myself and the AIW.

May we all be healthy, wealthy, and wise...or at least smart about it... :yahoo:

Prayers continually lifted for Terri and Jer

Jer,

I had to reply (my son's name is Jer). Whatever the reason, a lot of folks view, but don't post on threads such as this. It's often because they feel it's too private a subject or don't know what to say. I'm often in that camp, but rest assured with all the views vs. posts, forum members are sending positive juju to Terri and your family unit. Lots of cancer survivors out there and we all want her to be included, prayers sent.

Gotta love this forum! We can use it for prayer transmittal and then in the next breath discuss making a stink about a colonoscopy! Good stuff Mikey!

John, I understand that it is hard for some to reply to bad things and that is alright. I started this thread after some thought about the comment that Terri made concerning her regret that she hadn't had regular checkups. She is presently in good health and life will go on.

I am assuming that your son's full name is Jerry as is mine. I have been called Jer for so long by friends and family that I forget that at times. By the way we go by Jer and Ter.

Add my prayers to the list. I've been thinking a lot about Sharon, and will now think about Terri too.

Everyone, get your check ups. Those health screenings are worth the hassle. I've seen so many patients in the ICU whose conditions were picked up early by either routine checks, or examinations for something else. These kids got early diagnoses and were saved.
