Any difference in Gen 1 & Gen II saddlebags?

Gen I II, and III are all interchangeable though Gen II bags will make your Gen I feel fat, ugly and slow, and Gen III bags will turn it into the motobike equivalent of a moron.

Well if I could find some '05's that would be best, but I'm open to looking at any of them.
Given the choices that are out there right now, go GenII. It's a Babe Magnet! :D

And waaay better looking than those ugly GenI's

Yes they will fit but I did notice that the black plastic finish on the GEN 1 (at least the 2003) has a nicer gloss/finish to it. I bought a set of black GEN II and it has a dull (flat) color to it.

hmmm...interest..since one of the difference between gen I and Gen II was the bags were 1" or 2" narrower on the gen II. i didn't think the tail was narrowed...i thought the bag were a bit narrower and tad taller. And yes i read the model comparison chart, but read elsewhere the bags were diff. just saying is all...

It's been verified time and time again. Sidebags on Gen I and Gen II are pretty much identical. They completely changed the rear sub-frame from Gen I to Gen II and the bag mounting points became narrower.

I think we need to delve into this somewhat further. At what point did we realize that the bags were the same? And, when we say, "same", we both mean that they will fit either or genI and genII, correct?

edit:remember, you did say, "pretty much"....that can go a lot of different ways....

And one more time after that. I've tried to make the chart as accurate as possible and haven't had to correct something that was inaccurate for some time now. In fact, I think my last change was after Skooterg and I hammered out some paint discrepancies on AE's a couple years ago.

That said, if you find something that's not right I will certainly change it--it's just that the person claiming somethings wrong would need to provide verifiable details. (e.g. they actually measured bags from year to year and provided specific details..or provide a link to a source that's not somebody flapping their gums and in the Innertubes)

Also, I've updated the comparison chart to include some 2013 information. And I note with the substantial changes to the Gen III....it's very likely I may end up having to change, add, or delete information to the matrix...or modify my basic layout. Fitting all the years of bikes on one page is getting harder and harder! :yahoo:

I appreciate the time you put into that matrix...comes in handy.

However, I would also add that "throttle by wire" (with traction control, drive modes and standard cruise control), as well as revised suspension, would also be considered distinguishing features of this rendition of the FJR series.

You forgot to put the elusive additional cats in the GenII exhaust...Oh wait, you said verifiable facts. Nevermind.

That is a nice matrix though.

No, I didn't. I covered it:

Gen 2 exhaust include 2 additional catalyzers.
I was sufficiently convinced and presented verifiable information long ago. ;)
