This weekend after a 200 mile trip in the **** rain of NY, my wife got home in her 94 cherokee sport and her headlights would not turn off!!

The headlight switch seems to be functioning correctly, when you pull it on, the taillights and parking lights come on, and when you turn it off, everything but the headlights turn back off. the only way I could get the headlights to turn off was to disconnect the battery.

I pulled out the haynes, flipped through the schematics, but nothing I was looking at jumped out and told me why headlights could stay on when the rest of the lights were off.

Any speculations would be greatly appreciated. I won't be getting to work on it until this phukin rain in sub 40's crap ceases.(sadly we have no garage)

+1 - I am more of a shade tree mechanic rather than the professional that Radman is, but I find that sometimes you can free a stuck relay by tapping on it with a screwdriver handle. If that works then you need to replace the relay. Other than that, you will need a meter and try to trace back the source of the power to the lights. Tracing electrical problems is can be time consuming and frustrating.

Another option is to look for a Jeep forum and find out if it is a common problem that someone has already diagnosed for you.

I had a 94 Dodge pickup that the daytime running light module shorted and melted. Had to remove the module to get the lights to shut off. Don't know if they used the same system in the Jeep or not.

On the Dodge, the module was located in the engine bay, down by the steering column shaft.

On the jeep, we've owned it over a year now, and I'm almost positive it does not have DRL's. I'll check the engine bay when the weather clears though. thanks for the tip.

Rather than kill the whole jeep with disonnecting the battery just pull the appropriate fuse. It'll make it easier to "Run to the Corner"

back on track....fixed it last night. In the 10-pin connector behind the left headlight pin 6 (aux fog almp) was corroded and shorted over to pin 7 (high beam). I had to pull a new-er, unmelted 10-pin connector off the parts jeep that's in the back 40, and replace the faulty connector. I left pin 6 out since this f#$%^ jeep doesn't even have aux fog lamps!! Seriously, WTF was jeep thinking putting in a hot lead for fog lamps that aren't even there? What a PITA.
