Any FJR AE drag strip experience here?

Drag experience with a clutch -- yes -- AE in drag, no. You may want to contact Forum member Sullivan, I'm pretty sure he has seen an AE run the 1/8 mile track ;)

The AE part is what has my thinking. I've done clutch runs on other bikes but not the AE. Been doing a little launching practice on back roads but can't seem to find the sweet spot.

I only have plans on going one night to the local 1/8 mile track. If I have to make multiple runs with low ET's trying to get the launch down then so be it.

Any advice at all is appreciated.

Mike,

I think a post or two of mine may be listed under racing.

Launch was fine. Next time, will shift lower than redline per forum recommendation. Will not use handle paddle as I like the solid feel of the toe shift.

Last run felt a little skittish in the front end through second gear, probably due to the weight transfer but not objectionable.

Would love to try 1/4 mile next year but my FirstGear TPG with Termamid probably won't pass the Kevlar muster, so need more gear.

Did you brake torque any or just straight up nail it from a stand still? In either case does the AE have the desire to wheel stand like a clutch bike? What ET's were you getting?

For a point of reference, here is one of my slow 1/4 mile Time Slips. Note on this time slip I passed through the 1/8 mile in 7.266 seconds at 98.58 mph.

The AE may not launch as hard as my '04, check my 60' results against your time slip. Give 'n take -- the Gen II has a longer swing arm that will help it hook up better and reduce the tendency to wheelie. The Gen II has a different gear ratio that is not as aggressive as the Gen I, the Gen II weighs more than a Gen I, plus, the AE is another 40-50 lbs more than that.

I had already read all of those before I started this thread, none of which address my particular questions except maybe the last ET question.

That was some useful info.
