I'm heading to Colorado this Memorial Day weekend. I'll be staying in the Denver-Boulder area. I'm hoping to pick-up a Colt AR and have it shipped back to Cali. Does anyone have any good leads on a dealer who has decent prices?

I am not sure what the laws are in CO now after Columbine, or what the rules for importing an AR in to CA are, but I know the Reno dealers are very familiar with the draconian laws of the "Republic of Kalifornia". Come visit your neighbors here in NV.

You should check out gun shows and the classifieds. Private transactions are still legal and you can have anybody with a FFL ship it for you. You can also break it down and put it in your checked baggage if you declare it. Check with your airline on that or if you are driving lock it in the trunck and drive home.

Just for info I paid 995.00 for my Bushmaster with a rail and holographic site here in Or.

Go big, and buy a JP Enterprises AR. I had to sell mine, but you gotta love 1" groups at 300 yards, out of the box.

Triple check the legality of your plan with someone who really knows. Gun buddies and local LEO's can be a poor source for our black gun laws. Salesmen may be happy to take your money but I believe it's on you as to legality and local laws. Unless you are a LEO with a note from your boss on letterhead I think you would be on the wrong side of the California assault weapons ban.

Holy crap!

California is like, this whole other country!

They have medicinal marijuana, which is totally illegal under U.S. federal law and yet they ban weapons which are legal under federal law?

Crazy!

Is there anything else I should know?

Seriously though UberKul, good warning.

You may want to check the folks at this place:

I don't know much about the black rifles, I'm more of a lever action type of guy. But I do know that the laws in California are very confusing and it sounds like the individulal police departments interpret the gun laws to their own liking. And leave it up to citizens to prove otherwise. You will definately want to tread lightly on this issue and make sure that all your ducks are in a row.

If you show a non california dealer a california ID they won't even talk to you. Period. You have to be a resident of what ever state you're buying in to buy a gun from a dealer (Thanks Mr. Clinton). And since everybody blames California for that, it goes double for us. :glare:

Buy from a private party or forget it.

Buy a real gun, instead. Except for cheap target practice, .223/5.56 is useless.
It's a good, not great, but good prairie dog round. Cheap brass and other components.

It is also the round for IPSC competition 3 gun matches.
