The bad news: Someone sent a pick-ax flying down the highway.

The good news: It punched through the windshield of a Mercedes SUV

Load looser should do the right thing and fess up,

however the paper printing the consequences might not encourage them to do so.

.

.That pick axe incident could have went a bunch of different ways...Angels were charged to them.

HEY NOW........!!!!!!! Don't get all uppity....... I was driving along in my truck when I dropped

my crack pipe........... OH... and I was down to my last pipe.... it had been a long night...... it fell towards the passenger side

so I had to reach around the sheep quickly before that ***** steps on another one......... I know I swerved a bit........ :D

You get the picture... :dribble:

"The vehicle that lost the pickax has not been identified, but it was described as a late 1980s or early 1990s green or teal pickup with wood panels on each side of the bed. Anyone with information is asked to call the state patrol at 425-401-7788.

Filing to secure a load is a crime in Washington. Convictions could bring a year in jail and $5,000 in fines."

So, is it NOT a crime if you failed to file?

Scary stuff! :pickaxe:

We've all encountered things in the road that make us pucker (trash cans, wheels, tires, mufflers with tail pipes, ladders, 4x4 studs, etc. :pinch:

Lucky the guy wasn't killed. :dribble:

I know a couple camping type people at work. Both told me within a few weeks of each other, they lost their bikes off the bike racks behind their trailers. I didn't find it as funny as they did, since I ride a bike and hitting crap like that can be fatal. Another camper guy said he lost his spare tire and wheel off his trailer. I mentioned to all them if someone sees this happen and they do damage to something, they are liable. In Cali too you can be sited for failing to secure your load. :angry2:

I read that this morning, couldn't believe it. They will probably be able to fix the MB, but they will never get the smell of s--t out of the leather.

I spent half of the day yesterday cutting branches with a lopper that I picked up off the street a couple years ago. If that guy hadn't lost his lopper I would not have owned one and I could have been out riding. Darn load loser! <_<

I hit this big ole chucnk of crap with my SV at 70mph. The guy it front of me wasn't paying attention on his bike and somehow missed it by about 6 inches. His G/F was riding behind me and right before we came upon it she moved up out of my mirrors. So at 70Mph you see this about 100ft infront of you, Left? Chick on a bike somewhere. Right? there is about 3 feet before there is a tall permanant K-wall. Looks like it's time to stand up and ride over it. Katie, the girl riding to my left said the back end came up a good 8 inces in the air. Instant double flat. Dented both rims and the front rim was about 1/2" from coming around and catching the front calipers.

Jeebus pete, Scooby. I've had pucker moments, but that just might have had me cleaning up afterwards. Come to think of it, that pick axe might have done the trick, too.

Just call the Washington State Patrol at 425-401-7788 and you can get a free pickax, too. ;)

Thanks, but I get a funny feeling that the pickax won't be free.

There was a motorcycle rider who lost his life in Minnesota a couple of years ago when he ran into an inflatable pool toy that flew out of a boat being trailered on the highway. It wasn't secured or deflated. I've got a PFD at home that I found on the side of the highway one time when I was on the bike. I stopped and put it on and then continued the ride home. Yet another thing to watch out for when on a bike.

"Yupper, we went up to da lake dis weekend, don'cha know."

One scary event ...

... on the motorway. There were some illuminated signs saying "50". Normally these signs are used for fog, accidents or roadworks, but they are usually left on long after they might have been useful, so most drivers ignore them. Anyway, after passing the third one of these, I noticed a high visibility jacket on the hard shoulder. Its wearer was holding something up, looking at the traffic. My immediate thought was a radar speed meter, but I subsequently realised it was a video camera. He was concentrating on the road, I was concentrating on him.
When I finally looked in front again, I saw a piece of what I took to be a vehicle loading ramp lying right in the middle of my lane. It was perhaps four or five feet long, eight inches wide, and was of a channel section, perhaps two or three inches deep.

Luckily for me it was end on, I was able to avoid it with a mere twitch of the bars, missing it by a few inches. Had the man videoing this not been there, I'd have seen it well in advance. Another lesson or two learnt.
Part of a trip I reported on here.
