In searching for plug and play easy installation horns, I ran across these. They spec out pretty loud and are small looking. Should be (famous last words) an easy installation for those who don't want to go the Magnum Blaster route. Anybody try 'em?

I bought a pair of those, but they sounded too "motorcycley", so I put 'em on my daughter's Toyota, and it was a big upgrade from her stock horns. Went to NAPA and got some freeway blasters, which are loud, compact and sound more like a substantial vehicle than a loud, small import car.

The question now is; which blaster (high or low tone) do I retain with my new nautilus compact? I'm thinking low....

Aside from them being motorcycley, do you recall if they were substantially louder than the stock FJR horns?

Thanks! I think I am going to give them a try because they seem like they may be the closest to plug and play because they are small and shaped like the OEM horns.

I'm looking forward to a full installation report with pictures. If it's easy, maybe I'll do it.

I bought a set (high and low tones) of kind of generic "Freeway Blaster" horns at the local auto parts store for my last FJR, just plugged them directly in where the stockers were. Not a hard installation at all. They worked fine, but after I read more about the advisability of using the Randy Harness from folks who were more electrical-savvy than I was I was a bit concerned. Guess there's a risk of damage to the wiring somehow, with either long or frequent use. Turned out not to be an issue, since I wrecked the bike anyway.

So when I replaced the bike, I got the same horns again but this time used Randy's harness. Looks kind of like an octopus, but finally got it figured out and it wasn't as complicated as it looked. The horns MAY be a bit louder with the harness than without--proper wiring and all--but mostly I feel confident that I don't have a potential problem waiting to strike. I LOVE having a set of horns that could belong on a big-assed F-350 or something. Getting hit by a motorcycle you just cut off just isn't scary enough to be much of a deterrent. Any good car or truck horn, IMHO, is plenty loud enough, and soooo much better than any motorcycle horn. Should be a "must do" upgrade for everybody.

I haven't tried any of the aftermarket horns and probably won't. In the 2 years and 25,000 miles that I had my '05, I think I used the horn 3 times, and I always made sure I was far out in the country, away from any other people.

It's a different story with my current AE, though. In the 6 months that I've had it, I've accidentally hit the horn twice already while reaching to downshift, so I'm glad I don't have anything louder than stock hooked up.

In 30-something years of street riding, I don't think I have ever used a horn when other traffic was around. Usually there's just no time for it since my first priority in a bad situation is to get the hell out of there. Even if there is time, it has never seemed to me that blowing a horn is a positive thing to do. YMMV

I bet if there's a poll on this topic, I'd be in the minority. :)

Maybe, but that doesn't mean you're wrong! B)

I don't use mine very often, but just this week had the chance to blast the Stebel Nautilus air horn. A Guy was backing his pickup onto the street and his view of me was blocked by a fence. A quick double toot (okay, blast might be a better word) and he stopped backing! He probably wouldn't have heard those wimpy stock horns from the distance I was away. Oh, did I mention that I left the stock horns hooked up so that my horn button actually blows 3 horns at once? Sure, I could have stopped or swerved around but the horn stopped me from being inconvenienced.

When I go through the trouble and expense of wiring the Nautilus into my system, I'm gonna want to use it when given the opportunity. I drive/ride pretty aggressively, but not asshole aggressively. I don't honk at the assholes, just the morons.

The other day a guy on a cruiser, two-up, pulled out in front of the Highlander, then didn't accelerate, but slowed to turn into the next driveway, like I should get on my binders to cater to his discourteous and unsafe move. Luckily, I had room to change lanes, so they could hear the full punch of the Toyota horns as we went by.

If I could put fire truck air horns on my bike....
