I've been considering a trip to WFO and combining it w/ some sightseeing...Custer's Battleground, Devil's Tower, Mt. Rushmore, Badlands, etc. But have nothing definite yet.
Brazos,Same here. Might Glacier be on your list?

Hmmmm! Glacier might be nice place to visit. Like I said, I have no definite plans but will keep checking this thread.

I also have friends & relatives in Salt Lake City I'd like to visit.
FWIW, I have been to Glacier. It is very nice, but you won't really get the most out of your visit unless you spend a little time there. You need to get out on the hiking trails to really experience the place.

My favorite national park is Yellowstone.

Ray,How long are you figuring to get out there? I'm contemplating on doing a long trip this summer and being self employed I'm pretty flexible about schedule so I would consider it for sure.
I have no plans yet. However due to the time/distance, I'll probably take the Interstate one way and see the sights the other way.

I was thinking the Black Hills, Badlands, Mt. Rushmore etc.

I'm thinking seriously about going as well. I'll keep an eye on this thread. I'm in the Catskills in NY, probably 90 minutes from Latham.
I ride down your way often. Hunter Mountain, Woodstock, very nice roads in the Catskills.

I’ve also been to both. Was stationed in MT in the early 80’s. To me, the views from TGTTSR are absolutely spectacular. :specool: My first trip across the GTTSR was in 1980. Something I’d like to do; is loop the park on my bike—meaning, taking TGTTSR east or west and then returning on Hwy 2. Plus, I’d like to ride Hwy 89 thru the Little Belts, and hwy 212 from WY thru Red Lodge. Not to mention riding up and down the Bighorn Mountains on hwy 14 and ….. and ….. and…

Bonus points are accrued for furthest distance, most miles, shortest time, dirtiest bike (Mike-H?), etc. ;)
Warchild automatically wins dirtest bike!

Almost assuredly, George Zelenz will be taking these honors. :D

I hate to bring this up, but how will we account for distance travelled?
What's proof? Receipts only? We should standardize on something now.
We do have a standard... we've used it for years. It's simple, boring, but consistent.

You use the individuals home of record as the starting point. That's it. The most direct interstate/highway route to Park City as shown on most any Atlas, AAA maps, etc, and that's your mileage.

So like in your case, Orange, your mileage is a mere 666 miles.

Interestingly, Mapquest claims I am 667.88 miles from Park City. :p

The guys who will win this are likely to be southern Florida dudes, or upper northeast/east Canadian dudes.

I'm thinking of making WFO this year from New York. Is any one else thinking of doing this? I could use some route suggestions (nice ones that is). I would also consider riding out with one or two others.
You going thru Indianapolis? I'd might like to tag along.

ha!!!

i made reno from west palm beach, fl, (2,450 crow-flys miles, 2,950 mapsource miles) and got zilch at reno wfo...

I put two weeks vacation on my schedule for WFO. I'll need fresh tires on the bike when I leave and have another set ready for when I return. I might try for a BBG on the way there and have a couple extra days in Utah to look around before the FJR hooligans get there. We'll see how it goes when we get closer to July.

I'm seriously thinking about it...

However, drop down to I-70... it's almost as boring as I-80, but at least you'll avoid the clusterf*** south of Chicago... where they make everyone stop to pay the .60 toll...

I'm actually thinkig about trailering my bike (dont' yell yet!) if I pick up the old RV i'm looking at... otherwise, Ill ride out.

I dont' mind driving thru the middle of the country, but riding thru it sucks... mostly cause of those "people" out there on the road with Laser/radar guns..

I hate getting shot... and it sure slows the FJR down... she doent' like slow....<BG>

Oh yeah... if you ride across I-80, there's signals and signs to tell you if animals are in the area...

However... it can set off the POP radar signal, just the way the detectors are situated and the the curves in the road...

I think mine was the dirtest bike, Mikes was almost preetty in comparison,

made it easy to find a parking spot under the canopy, the smell and the flies eating the roadkill kept people away.

Total trip WFO and back last year was 9936 miles

RacinRay,

I'm all signed up, paid for, and got a room booked.

Maybe you, me, and Geezer could meet up somewhere for the ride. I'm retired and time is flexible. Also thinking of hightailing it out there and tour on the way back. Was thinking of picking up I-70 to Denver and then up to Estes Park, CO, and non interstate roads from there into Park City, on the way out. All depends on time, would like to get to PC by Thurs night.

Keep in touch.

I'm pretty sure I'm going. I'll be leaving from the Black Hills of South Dakota, and will probably go from here across Wyoming.
