Hey folks, Hope all are well.

I'm getting ready to take a trip on the FJR and want to swap the stock windshield for the "taller" Yami shield I bought when I purchased the bike. Has anyone removed the stock shield, and if so, how do you do it? I haven't looked at the manual yet as I am going to do it Saturday morning. I just don't want to break the black plastic that covers the motor arms. This is on a 2008 model. Any help is greatly appreciated. No luck on FJR Tech.

Lastly, this is one SWEET machine! Stay verticle, Dirk.

Small allen wrench and a phillips screw driver is all you need to swap.

Look underneath the "w" down towards the headlights and you will see 2 allen heads, remove them and the W will pop off. the you will look at 7 PLASTIC philips screws remove them and the sheild comes off. re-install is a reverse opperation.

Do not over tighten the screws or they will strip or break

I personally use the dealer for windshield swaps. I just don't want to void the warranty.

I highly recommend you always have a few extra of the nylon windscreen screws on hand ( as well as extra of other fasteners). It's not unusual for a couple of them to break, especially as they age.

it's friday somewhere?

has a tire ever been changed? :D

as posted above, just snug the windshield screws, that lil extra will have you lookin for new ones!

And don't use thread lock compound. There's a rumor it causes the plastic to become brittle.

Well that about explains it all - don't search, don't read the manual, just log on and suck the wealth of knowledge right out of our jelly filled craniums. :dribble:

Let us know when your ready to take your side cases off. ;)

Do not replace plastic screws for metal one in case you loose one. These screws are made to break in case of an accident

I noticed that 3 of my bolts sheared off from the minor screwdriver torque when I tried to REMOVE my shield after my deer strike. Suspect the G-loads stretched but not quite broke the nylon bolts. Sound familiar Greg - hmmm?
