This is my second set of Avons...... I went through the original rear Metzler at about 5500 miles. My first rear Avon I was surprised it was showing wear indicators at 5000 but I stretched it to 6000.

Now I have 16500 on the bike and my rear Avon is showing wear indicators. IS IT ME??? I got the Avons because the guys on this site swore they were getting 8000-10000 miles.

I am a little hard on the throttle and love wheelies and fast starts. But I never do burn outs. Geezzzzeeee another few $$$$ for a tire. :(

I get no where near the 10000 mile mark either. I don't ride... uhm.... conservitly...

I changed mine at 5,000 miles with plenty of tread left (Doing a long ride and I had patched the rear @ about 500 miles so I decided to change them).

One note, I had the "Avon Wobble" real bad on the first set, no wobble at all on the second set.

It should be law to mail out bags of popcorn prior to posting a thread like this. Otherwise, it's redundant so I'll post up and support the madness.

I am on my third rear Avon and got about 6,000 miles on each of the previous ones. I could have stretched them further but there wasn't any reason to go past the wear bars when I have a new one sitting in my garage. I am pretty much a 5th gear rider and try to conserve the tires but the chip seal roads I ride on are definitely contributing to the short tire life.

Hmmm, I loved my Avons on my last bike. But that had nowhere near the power this one does.

I don't do wheelies but I love fast starts and hard accels, and I just hit the wearbars at about 7500 on the BT020's that came stock on my '06. I'm at 8k now, I think I'll replace them soon.

6900 out of my original Metz, 6600 1st Avon (just past wear indicators), 8100 second Avon (slightly into flat spot), and 6700 (just past wear indicators). No wheelies, moderate throttle.

Your experience seems pretty average to me.

I'm on my third rear Avon and second front. Around 6 - 7,000 on the rears but 10,000 easy on the fronts. I think both road surface and ambient temperature where/when you ride have a huge influence. Gotta use those 145 horses from time to time or what was the point of buying the FJR? If I wanted long tire life I could have bought an 85 horse BMW! ;)

WOW! You guys are keeping the tire mfgrs rolling in dough.

I got about 9200 on my Mich Pilot Roads and could have gone 10k on the rear if not the trip that was coming up. The Avons are just getting close to the wear bars, so I'll have to check my records to see what the mileage is.

I'm sure I'm getting 6k miles on the rear... and then an addition 2k to 4k more.

--update--

Checked my records and was surprised. I am not yet to the wear bars on the rear Avon but it's getting awfully close. My guess would be about 1000 (plus or minus) left.

>shock< There's only 7k miles on these tires! >shock<

No heavy loads for trips. The PSI was watched religiously. A mix of commuter, 500 mile day trips (sometimes less), and a few quick-ish passes on some of the fun roads in the area. I don't squid it up, don't pull wheelies or do smokey burn outs, and commuting is not jack rabbit-like.

Perhaps the last of an Avon doesn't burn up at an accelerated rate like other tires do. But I'd be surprised to get another 3k miles out of this rear. If not, then they won't have lasted for me like the Mich Pilot Roads did.

My OEM Metz 4's got 6200 miles, and I replaced with the Avons....just turned 14K, so I have about 7800 miles on the rear Avon, and it looks like it may get another 2K or so.

Never-Ending Pointless Recurring Threads :haha:

I love these "discussions"... It lets me know who "rides their bike " the way i like to... Hard and WOT alot!

The cost of gas $3.00/gal

The cost of oil $$6/Qt

The cost of wearing out my tires at 5-6k full of fun, PRICELESS! :yahoo:

EVERY MILE IS FULL OF SMILES!!! LOVE THIS BIKE! :clapping:

And you only dragrace R-1s and GSXR 1000s, saving yourself rather than racing every kid on a 600. Those expendables (like tires) do wear out when used hard. Ain't yuh glad yuh don't do burnouts! :D

How many folks on this forum change their own tires. I'm giving strong consideration to getting a manual tire changer from Harbor Freight. It's only $100 bucks w/ the motorcycle attachment. I think this is the same rig Fred H. used on his Goldwing DVD set. I anticipate going through many tires on this bike (if I ever get the damn thing).

That's all I got out of my rear avon. The z6 on the 06 seems to be hanging in there though. 3500 miles or more now and very little apparent wear
