Has anyone who has sold a motorcycle exhaust online or on the forums have some good tips for shipping an FJR aftermarket exhaust system? Mainly looking for tips on box sizes used and any tips on minimizing shipping costs.

Thanks much!

-Sam

I sold my OEM cans on here. Shipped them in two 6"X6"X ~28" boxes taped together. I wrapped each can in bubble wrap. Cans arrived in perfect shape.

These are aftermarket pipes with midpipes which can be separated from the cans so I probably won't need a 28" long box. I am not worried about packaging, I think I can do a good job at that, but I do care about keeping shipping costs down for a potential buyer.

Separate the mid pipes from the cans to reduce the length and only slightly increase the width. Wrap the pipes and cans separately with one layer of bubble wrap then place in packaging peanuts to fill space but make sure the box is only slightly larger than the wrapped parts. This will lower your shipping cost.

Shipping costs will be terrible no matter what you do. Best bet is pack'em up good and tight and ship them via USPS parcel post.

Just my $.02 from recently shipping quite a few items.

+1

Might be worth a quick trip to a ups store and talk packing requirements. Must meet their packing requirements to be covered by insurance if you purchase that.

Or pack them on the Feejer and deliver. Perfect excuse for a good long ride

Hmm. Thanks guys! Let's see how this goes. Trying to clean out my garage. Will have more stuff in the For Sale sections soon.. need to sell stuff, so I can spend the money on FJR trips! :)

Sam, My tenure at UPS as a Mgr. taught me one thing, stuff happens! Follow their guide of 3" of cushioning all around the item (also between items), minimize the use of foam peanuts ( they allow items to "migrate" around to an inner carton wall and suffer damage) and attach an address label directly to each item inside the carton. There is a facility UPS has named Overgoods and it's FULL of stuff that exited a carton enroute with no label and no way to match it up with the mangled carton from whence it came. Those items are eventually sold at auction after they pay a claim for lost goods. It aint' easy, but these steps have been proven to give the shipping process more chance of a successful outcome. Good luck!
