The similarity between the FJR in the pictures and the FJR in your avatar is quite coincidental I'm sure... What I notice with more alarm than the dragging foot and foot peg is what appears to be someone dragging their Wild Bills. IIRC, those darn Wild Bills have levered more than one FJR's tires off the road in mid corner.

BTW, nice pixs!

A little level adjustment in Photoshop makes Alan's point pretty clear:

Fold your highway pegs up before tackling the twisties.

Not only fold them up, but remember the actual pivot is a lower *solid* contact point than the stock FJR.

Is it?

Folks, the actual peg will fold up when hitting, just like the OEM pegs. No big deal. What you DON'T want to hit is the knub of the base where the peg hinges as that does NOT move.

Now I have aftermarket suspension that gives me more ground clearance so I only occasionally scrape the OEM pegs but when I do, I have yet to have that non-pivoting knub touch down.

Don't know why some do and some don't, but they don't ALL cause the FJR to crash.

I agree... BUT it is possible to incorrectly position the pegs so that they don't easily fold up with contact. At my kuryakyn's are that way. Careful installation results in easy rotation to the up position should you forget to manually raise them before the corners.

Yoh, JDawg, buy some better pegs and mount them up, eh? My Kuri's stay put.

Unless you are trying to scrape up your hardware, you might try leaning into the corner and getting your body weight to the inside of the turn, rather than pushing the bike down and staying body erect. Notice how your left elbow is bent more than the right one? ideally you want it to be just the opposite. Also move your head and shoulders down and behind the right side mirror, or as some like to say, kiss the mirror.

OTOH, sparks are fun...

You are correct. I should not have worded it to state that all installations will contact first. Some will, apparently, if you believe these threads:

Make your own decisions as to what you install and how you ride.

Thanks for the callout to reality skoot! :derisive:
