I've been looking for a small, cheap and no fuss video cam for the bike. Tried the Archos 604 and thier Helmet Cam. The system works OK and is small and easy to use but the video quailty isn't anything to get excitied about. The original video isn't that bad, but really sucks when compressed for the web. My Sony Hi-Def camera makes great video, but is a real PITA to haul around and use on a long trip.

Don't think the Archos is the answer.

can't resist.. no gloves, t-shirt, not covering the front brake... the ATGATT police will be along shortly! :biggrinsmiley: The video wasn't all that bad..

Hell, you know how us damn Harley riders are. Just a quick trip around the block. As you can see not a damn thing out there.

Dwilli,

Nice video. Doesn't look like Amarillo however. Where did you take the vid at?

Its Amarillo. I live in the NW part of town on off Hwy 1061 (Boys Ranch Road) and there's a big new housing project in this area. They have leveled and graded the lots and are just starting to built the houses. Lots of dirt blowing around and higher taxes to follow. This part of town has seen alot of development in the last couple years.

I guess it depends on how much you paid for it as to the quality of the film.

With my previous camera, It had roughly the same quality as yours at a cost of $150. but for high speed it did not have a good FPS rate IMO.

Dwilli,

I've been looking for a helmet mount camera that can take stills, perhaps with a handle bar mount trigger and auto focus. Weather proof would be nice too.

Your video looks more than ok, especially if what we saw was compressed. Any chance the Archos does stills at a higher res ? Do you just point and shoot or do you have some kind of view screen to monitor whats being captured ?

I don't like helmet cams because of the motion, but that's just me.

I don't have any suggestions for anything better for you. Find stuff by jdog; here's his

He's probably spent more money on it, though. . . .

It won't do stills.

The camera plugs into the Archos 604 which has a video screen. It's a really nice little unit. The thing I like is it records directly to the 30G hard drive in the 604. Most helmet cams require the use of a camcorder with an A/V input to capture the video and a battery pack. I'm sure there are other and better ways to do it. I had been using a Sony HD camcorder strapped to the top of a tankbag. Not the best setup.

A setup like you talking about would be nice. Just snap the pic and crop it at home on the computer. No need to stop and take the pic.

I've got a Kodak DX 7630 which is a point and shoot type auto focus camera. Just point in the general direction and click the button. Not the best setup, or the safest. It does distract you from the road while using it.

Here's a link.

I lived at Cal Farleys in the 70s. Small world, eh?
