Are any PNW riders going to do a valve check soon?

I am. Of course I'm kinda far away in a wilderness devoid of anyother FJRs. It will be my second check on my 2013. It's not particularly hard to do a check but an adjustment is more involved it appears.

Anyway, your welcome to come. I have a bunkhouse with full bath facilities and a heated shop with a lift and all the tools required.

We have done them a few times but the recent trend is to stay away from doing so. My fourth check is not going to be due till next year. When it comes time the PNW crew is a good one so someone might be able to step up. It's how I learned to do mine, The job of checking isn't really that hard but it is really nice to have someone help you get it apart the first time.

Most of these guys are smarter than me and don't ever need help but I sure appreciated the help the first time thru!

When your ready post up and most likely someone will step up.

I'm coming up on 26K but I'm not tallying so many miles since our northern latitude weather went south. Sometime in the next few months would probably be OK. I thought if they were ever done at the tech meets I would wait until the spring meet.

I thought you had some covers I could trace and copy. I'm still interested in doing that. There are a few other things I'd like to have ready beforehand. My understanding is that it's a good idea to replace the cam chain tensioner at this point. Maybe it's the second check.

I remember taking about the covers with you, ping me and we can get together and trace out a set if you want. Can't remember the year you have as they have changed the tensioner a couple of times. Definitely any 06 or 07 should be changed out.

Wynpro makes them (Covers) pretty cheap also.

You're more than welcome to come over to my place to do it as well. I have a big case of shims in small increments in case any need adjusting.

If you have a blue or green dot on the CCT, you likely don't need to replace it.

On that Gen 2, you'll want new coolant O-rings (3 total IIRC), a new valve cover gasket is kinda nice, and maybe a new cover gasket for the cover over the small lower timing chain sprocket. This is also a good time to replace your spark plugs.

The GEN2s only need to replace the 2 small coolant O-rings in the top of the valve cover, GEN1s also require replacement of the thermostat O-ring.

I just noticed that you have the 06 so along with the two above mentioned O-Rings I'd get the up-dated CT and gasket, Get plugs, get the Chain Cover Gasket and 3 or 4 Qt's of Honda 50/50 Anti Freeze. If you don't do the CT, I like having the O-Ring for the Chain cover to turn the engine over with the crank bolt.

That sounds great. Are you planning on doing a valve check on your own bike soon? I will collect all of the stuff I need and then I'll be ready to do all of this within the next couple of months. I live in Ballard around NW 85th and 15th NW. Are you close by?

Ha ha, is anything close to Ballard?

I'm down about 10 miles east of Ikea. I won't need to do a valve check till roughly next October, but plenty of people on this forum have helped me with random bike stuff, so don't sweat it.

Fremont is close to Ballard.

I hear you about help received from others on the forum. What a great resource.

I'm going to collect some things I'll need including PAIR system covers, CCT parts if needed, whatever fluids I'll need, and then contact you after the first of the year.

Sounds great! Feel free to PM me if you need my number. I have half a gallon of Zerex Asian pink coolant that I opened this morning, you're welcome to it for your bike. (Actually, a friend left 3/4 of a gallon of Honda blue here too three weeks ago)
