Does it really matter to motorcyclists or has the "biker image" moved beyond them?

Thoughts?
IMO motorcycling has moved past them. They don't seem to be as visible riding their bikes anymore and the image has been diluted by too many dentists playing outlaw biker on weekends. In BC most of their public image relates more to crime than to motorcycles. Other than loud pipes, seems most of the bike ‘problems’ in the media are featuring sport bikes.

On way to wfo last year, spent nite in Cody, Wy. There were 5000 hells angels in Cody at same time. Most were well behaved and just enjoying the ride. But you could defenitly tell them from the Dr's, lawyers and dentists. Not a lot of chrome in their bikes, spent their money on tats. Some, you knew not to mess with. jr

Never had much to do with them, and in my younger days always thought they were to be avoided.....

However. Once when about 19 I was at a huge bike rally mid summer with about a dozen mates. We got a bit wild and wrecked the tent at the begining of the night. Went down to the local town for the nights frivolities, by the time we got back to the camp site the heavens had opened and it was pouring down. With a beer overcoat each we donned helmets and sat in a circle round a large tree. The rain continued all night long and of course by morning even the best waterproofs, (which were never much good anyway in those days) were useless. We were all soaked to the skin.

About 9am we were talking about going home, all hung over and drenched. It was still raining heavily and we had a 2 hour ride ahead of us.

To our amaizement 3 girls came over from a large group of Hells Angels camped nearby. They brought with them mugs of tea and bacon butties. My view of Hells Angels changed for ever.

Depends on who you believe. The way I understand it is that these groups have moved from being a bunch of trouble makers into serious organized crime. For drug running its better to keep a low profile, so they are not as much public trouble as they used to be. However, when I was out to Sturgis this summer I missed a shootout between the Hell's Angels and the Outlaws in a national park by one day, so they may still be a bit relevant.

They are also very clear about one thing, leave them alone and they will leave you alone.

My insurance company said that if I belonged to a club, I would qualify for a discount.

I asked if the Hell's Angels would work? They said no...

I don't think the Angel's would let me in on an FJR - plus getting beat up and pee'd on during initiation just aint worth it.

I know things are different in England, but bacon on their butts? Wow, I'd have a different view too! :yahoo: :clapping:

To counter all the feel good ****, some years back my best bud, his cousin and I were at Sturgis on our HD's. The cousin, a little guy (he had genetic defects that would ultimately lead to his early death) had just a gorgeous Pan, that he had built pretty much from scratch, everyone thought it was magnificent. Including a group of Angels, who decided they just had to have it. So they pushed the cuz to the side, and proceeded to load it into a pickup. Only the intercession of a 4th friend, huge guy who was a construction union organizer, and knew some of the creeps involved, prevented the Pan from disappearing into the ethereal. Twas my last journey to Sturgis, as well as Donnies. He died the following winter.

Perhaps if one were to review the in Casino shoot out in Laughlin a couple three years back one might reassess the revelance? They did not choose that name for their church choir group.

I would have to say they are very relevant in the motorcycling community. Two shoot outs in public places in the last three years may indicate what might be considered by some to be somewhat of a trend?

This was in retaliation for the Mongols gunning down and killing a H/A member on the side of the road on his way to Laughlin.... moral of the story..don't piss them off !!

Must have missed that. Buddy of mine had his jaw broke by a Hell's Angel, 'course he was stupid enough to walk up to the guy and say "Hey brother". I was referring to the famous incident from the '60's when the Hell's Angels worked security for the Rolling Stones. Regarding Rad's friend, its always been said that one of the Angel's pledge requirements is to steal a motorcycle.

Here's a little story about motorcycle gangs.......

Many, many years ago a gal who worked at the local extended stay set me up on a date with this gal who was staying there for a couple of weeks.

After 5 or six dates we got pretty attached to each other. Without going into great detail....turns out she was in the W.P.P.

Her ex-boyfriend was one of the top boys in the organization. Needless to say she was moved around the country while she was waiting to testify against the club and I didn't think seeing her again was a good idea.

The stories she told me were rather shocking. She was a nice gal, had a nice job, condo, money, etc. Hooked up with the bad boy and her whole life changed.

Needless to say this club put a hit out on her and after seeing a picture of this guy(ex navy seal) and his buddies in a book, That's when I decided to say sayonara!

Havn't been on a blind date since!

I sometimes work with my friend who sells leathers and "Biker" stuff at local shows. He was asked to be a vender

at the HD club house in LI. It took us over 2 hrs to set all his stuff up. The Angels walked in, tried on a couple of leathers and just walked out... I took 2 steps forward and my friend grabbed me by the collar and said we're out of here! Took us 20 mins to throw everything into his trailer and they still hit him up for the $100 vender fee!

Damn... in some worlds physical prowress is the only accountable power. Scary story. I have one too. But won't share it. Those who can read between the lines will understand why. Just don't ever be in Ely Nevada on a 4th of July with the only Kz1300 (jap bike).. I still get the willies... and for those that worry about carrying? No comment.
