Are the 06 headlights different?

I read somewhere that the headlights are a slightly different design. Is this just the vents either side?

I rather like the FJR headlights and I am hoping that the 're-design' hasn't meant a lesser light output. Even nicer if they installed Xenons... (maybe this will be the 08 upgrade to compete with K1200GT).

Yes. It's primarily changes to the shape of the housing assembly (to account for the bodywork changes), but the reflector housings appear to be pretty much identical to previous model years.

The light output on the '06 is fantastic! That light saved my ass last week-end. An eight point buck, an owl, two raccoons and a frog were all lit up. The critters of the forest were out to kill me, and I saw all of them in plenty of time. Granted, the frog wasn't much of a threat, and raccoons, ...but that dear woulda hurt!

I love this bike!

and the 2006 headlights are adjustable too! Two knobs on the dash panel control the angle of the lights. They are designed to change the angle depending upon if the bike is fully loaded or with passenger or not.

I think I mentioned those adjuster knobs on the used 06 pricing post 2ng page back and cosmetic changes, it is nice that the dash panels need not be remocved to adjust the head lights! seems like mother is working toward perfection

Dayum...your headlights are attached to your handlebars?

That's funny...mine are mounted in the fairing, which is mounted to the frame, which doesn't necessarily turn with handlebars.

God, you make me laugh. :)

Oh, BTW, double :****: you.

I know, you asked how to adjust them not what they were connected to, Mr. Wizard. If you turn the bars, the fairing will follow, hence your lights will adjust accordingly to the amount of bar rotation. While moving, of course.

Gawd, yer awfull stoopid! Now, straighten up!

Yes, they are jerky and have a mysterious buzz.

Plus, they have a tendency to make the bike fall over on the left side due to a design defect.

Did I mention they are REAL hot, and sometimes "tick"?

Everyone, I wanted to let you all know a couple of things regarding the headlights & turn signals.

1. The headlight assembly on my 06A has a leaking seal. It is under warranty. I ride the my motorcycle everyday back and forth to work. 74 miles. Rain or shine!

2. The left turn signal is also leaking. The gasket is to be replaced. Also under waranty.

So, the bottom line, watch for fogging in the assembly. If it does, BRING IT BACK FOR REPAIR! THis is the only way Yamaha will fix the problem or process in the manufacturing.

Yes. 03-05 models have both vertical and horizontal of the headlights. Little star wheels down inside there for both. Horizontal aim ones are harder to get to, but no panels have to be removed.

RTFOM!!!! Especially you RH! Bleepin dimwit.

Though the electronic adjustment for the new 06s is pretty nifty, I think it's a half-assed design to have an adjuster for each side. One button should control both lights. My experience is that to accurately aim the headlights, one of them needs to be covered while aiming the other against a wall, or garage door. Trying to fine tune the aim when they are covering and overlapping each other is darn near impossible.

The headlight adjustments are mechanical, not electric.

What Yamaha has essentially done is relocate the '04-'05 star wheels up close to the rider's position (and changed them to a more conventional knob) so that they can be adjusted while underway.

Yep. My mistake. For once you are right. :****:

Still think they should have only one knob for both lights however for underway adjustment. Have separate knobs for individual left/right adjustment.

Bleepin' idiot indeed! Which electrical button does an '06 owner push?

Ya wanna point out to me, after RTFOM, where "headlight adjustment" in the FOM is located? Sure as hell not in mine.

Now, the procedure IS outlined in the FSM, but not in the FOM. Unless yours is simply different from mine.
