Forgive me if this has been asked, but as much as I love my '06, I have a problem. I added risers and had a new seat made, but my right wrist and elbow hurt after a short ride. I feel like my wrists are turned out to much and this is causing the pain. I get this in both arms. Am I weird or have others experienced this? The risers and the seat had nothing to do with this. This has gone on since I bought it new. Ideas??

I'll bite. Ergos for everyone is very different. I installed a set of Doug Hine's handlebar risers and really wanted to love them. Then I found out that my crashed out right shoulder was just at the full irration point with the new position. I tried changing seat height, body position, etc. but nothing worked. You simply have to experiment to find the ergos that work for you. Do other bikes cause grief with the same body parts? If not, how do the two riding positions compare? You may want to search this site for 'master yoda' riding position. That one thread saved me from selling my FJR.. Hope this helps..

 
Nope, you're not weird. Until I had MCL make the 60 risers, I would have days of pain after a 4 hour ride. Keep experimenting, you'll find the right mix.

+1 on what MM2 said and the risers did help me also.

As mentioned the ergos are very different for different folks. But there have been threads here on this issue and one thing that stands out is that alot of people grip the bars too tight. I know this was a mistake I was making and keeping the light grip on the bars and correct posture go hand in hand as well. I'd find some links but I'm tired and got to say good night. Difference to myself was made by fitting a Vario screen, before this I had problems with wrist also shoulder pains. Seems I was being pushed forward by the air flow, since fitting the new screen I would say this problem has reduced by >75%.

Something else to think about is the position of your brake (and clutch for some) lever.

You mentioned right wrist pain. Sit on the bike in the garage on the centrestand and put your hands on the grips.

Put your fingers over the brake lever as if you were going to use them. STOP...look at your wrist.

Is your wrist/hand cocked back? You lever may be set too high.

Your wrist should be in a neutral or slightly angled down position when riding to reduce fatigue etc.

This is the "gay wrist" position but a much more natural position....and ahh...ahem..does not make you gay.

All you need is to loosen the top allen bolt on the lever, rotate it forward and down and retighten.

Make sure your elbows are even or slightly below your wrists as well. Some have to learn this arm and hand position.

Do not white knuckle the grips. A bike is steered with you body at speed. Bars are for slight input.

You should be resting comfortable on your bike, not fighting it.

I actually found that comfortable as well. My wrists were at eye level though. Above is a little higher.

I know that you posted this a while ago however I did not see that you got any relief. You might want to try the mod I did to change the handlebar "angle" on my 2006. CHORNBE did a great pic run through on how it is done and he nor I have had any problem with the mod and it has been 8-9 months. you can take a look at the pictures at his site

To me it sounds like it is the angle not the distance that is giving you trouble.

I was getting the same pain as well in my right elbow and attributed it to the heavy throttle return spring and that my elbow was almost straight out in my normal riding position. I just finished installing my heli bars upper triple clamp which moves the bars back about 1.5". I havn't had a chance to ride with it yet but from what I can tell just sitting on the bike it feels great, just the right position. We just had a big streak of winter hit Salt Lake recently.

I'm not sure if risers are available yet for the 06-07's yet but from what I could tell I needed the bars farther back, not up, and that is why I went with the heli bars triple clamp.

Besides that the new triple clamp looks cool as hell!

+1 on this mod - I had the exact same symptoms you described, my wrists felt like they were "cocked" and the outside of my palms would feel bruised after a ride. There was a lot of discussion at the time about whether or not removing this pin compromised the integrity of the handlebars, but I checked mine often and have had no problems. This mod, along with adapting the "master yoda" riding position, went a long way towards helping me complete a SS1000. Something else that helped was the addition of an Audivox CC - I can ride for miles with my hand resting on the throttle grip housing.

I'm going to say I have suffered off and on from this problem. The Yoda position, grip puppies and getting rid of the deathgrip helped. I tried doing the Chornbe pin removal and I must have gay wrists because I couldn't pull or freeze (with CO2) the damn pin out. I hated going to the dremel, so put it into a trusted shop and asked my mechanic to pull the pin out to change the bar angle. I'm also having the G2 throttle sleeve put on while I'm laid up, with the hope that besides smoothing out throttle response, it may reduce the jerk on my wrist and hands when I give the bike gas. The jerking can't help. So next week I get to experiment with bar angle adjustments. For me, I gave it a year to see if I could do it without changing the angle, but gave up. I'm convinced body size and shape have something to do with it.

Man, all you guys are *******. Modify this, modify that, until you are blue in the face. ONE word....................

ADVIL and get on with it, or just face it, your too old for riding.

 
I use the Hines risers and because of the design I am able to spread the bars to a more open position that got rid of the wrist pain and have had no problems with the risers at all. It would be nice to have the feature of the Heli clamp that brings the bars back though but don't have the dough for the setup. Right now I'm pleased with what I have. PM. <>< :D
