Weather was great yesterday for a ride in the twisties in and around Suches. Left Chattanooga towards Occoee then picked up hwy19 from 74. I don't know the name of the store at the intersection of 180 and 19.........but it's now CLOSED? What's up with that? That's where we normally top off for fuel before getting on 180.

Since it is closed we went down to the next place on the right{name?} as they seam to be reaping the benefits of the gas store being closed. There were quite a few bikes there when we pulled up. I met a guy from this site on a black '08 but didn't catch a user name or his name. It's apparent by now I suck at the name thing huh? The guy I met from this site said he won the '08 in a drawing while I was looking at his GPS mount. Nice guy, should have gotten a name. Maybe he'll catch this post.

Only pics I took from the ride yesterday are these at the restaurant/camp site on 19. 3.0 phone pics so not the clearest......

I was impressed with the number of FJ's on hand at that stop, I think I counted 7 at one time.

Since the normal gas stop was closed we rode out 180 to 60 then turned back down to get fuel before riding out 60. There were a small group of guys on sport bikes RIPPIN' IT UP on the back side of 60. We made a stop at the store on top of 60 at the Appalachian trail to add some air to my buddies Sv1000 rear tire. He accidentally turned on the slime pump before I got the bike started and it blew my accessory fuse so we got a hand from a cager on that but while siting there you could hear those guys twisting the guts out of the sport bikes coming up the mountain. They were going down and running hard back up. One guy made like 5-6 passes just in the few minutes we were there. So when we took off rolling at a pretty good clip we came up on a couple of the sport bikes that were going back up. An R1 came by me so damn fast in the other direction it wasn't funny but cool to see none the less.

Stopped in Dahlonega for lunch and a few beers at Dante's. <~~Remembered a name! Probably cause of the beer thing.

Finished the day up going over Fort MT then picked up 75 to head back home.

I love that whole area. I'd rather ride the N. GA mountains than go to the Dragon any day. You guys that live closer are lucky to have roads like that so close to home.

Dale's is (was) the store at 180 and 60 that just recently closed. He's been in a hospital and having a hard time keeping the place going.

Ahhh, thanks for the info. To bad, hope he gets better and reopens. We always made it a point to stop in there and buy something be it gas or something from the store. My guys and myself are all about spending money at privately owned shops that cater to bikes around riding area's.

mike,

sorry i didn't have a chance to introduce myself, that's me on the blue/silver fj in the 'stich, another former fj rider (now on a wee strom), danny, standing waiting to see how long before i drop the old girl; tommy (red hat) and buff bill (blue/white/black leathers), and henry (ballcap, red shirt). we had our fall east coast fj rally this weekend (actually, most of us arrived tuesday) and decided to come to TWO. two of my fave roads are richard russell highway and blood mountain. i could ride those roads all day.

Here is some additional info on dales place.

Dale pierce, the owner/operator of the store as mentioned was sidelined by a blood clot blowing out his leg back in June. He spent several months in the hospital and then another month out of the store at a physical rehab facility.

The two ladies that worked for him did a great job over the summer keeping the place open and catering to the hundreds of bikers that came and went. However, with fuel prices so high, (they would spend 9 grand on gas that they only made 350.00 selling) and the battles with the actual property owner Dale decided he had enough.

Dale closed the store and gave away most of the inventory, tables , chairs and such on friday sept 19.

Dale was a major assett to the north Georgia riding scene. He always had the races on and treated you like his best customer weather or not you spent a little or spent a lot.

His store was the rock Store of the east. A place that you talked with your friends that you only knew from that place.

I wish Dale the best, a full recovery and a prosperous future.

+1

It really sucks both for Dale and for everyone who rides in the area. I guess I'm going to have to frame my "Loop" certificate now.
