"I'm reading the news, and I guess that's doing something. I look at driving long distance as a time to get things done."

HO-LEE $#!+

Unfortunately, we have all seen this. This appears to be the prevailing attitude out there. Ride like your life depends on it, folks,... because it does! This article will undoubtedly come back to haunt these two a-holes in court.

Fukin' Idiots!! I think they should just shoot both of them now and save a few innocent lives.. B)

Tell ya what, When I'm in my truck and some "I'm so damned important I need to do stupid **** like this" runs a stop sign or something equally stupid I'll aim right for the dumb ***. Granted I may get bruised possibly worse but If I can get out I'm going to beat 'em about the head and shoulders with that damned thing.

There is nothing absolutely nothing in anyone's life so damned important that they have to jeopardize any ones safety in this way.. Pull the *** over! :angry2:

Krist! How the hell did people like this ever live before cell phones? **** I bet the world just fell apart everyday without their important voices commanding the troops in their lives... <_<

Hmm, this gives me an idea.. Think I'll gather up all the out dead phones I can find, put them in a burlap bag.... And keep them behind the seat for "training" morons like this. Cell phones ain't weapons .....yet. ;)

Bust, I would recommend one of these to hold thier precious distractors while you "train" them

I was stationed in NC for 5 years (Jacksonville). Part of which was after they passed their no cell phones while driving law. I never once met a person that got ticketed for talkin on the cell and driving. Not a single one. But you can bet your *** that if they saw you going 10 over on a deserted stretch of road you'd get ticketed faster than you could pull your Insurance and reg. out of the glove box.

What the hell... :angry2:

That's just ... :angry2: :angry2:

Wow. It really takes effort to be THAT much of a dumbshit. Nice to see it runs in the family, too. Maybe a meteor will strike at their next family reunion.

Reminds me of something I saw a few years ago... My dad and I were riding from Daytona to Sarasota and making decent time. Came up next to a guy that had a book open on his steering wheel. He'd look at the road for a second, then look down and read, then back at the road, turn the page, look back down and read... I rode right beside him and he never even noticed I was there. I booked the hell outta there to get away from the moh-ron.

Oh, and Bust - nice rant! :glare:

That's ok, one of the local UCF students killed herself and 5 of her friends about a year ago by driving-while-texting and managing to run a red light. Big writeup in the local paper about how she texted all the time and the phone company records showed her texting at the time of the "accident"

Lots of boo-hoo ******** about how she was a wonderful person and all those precious unfulfilled lives were snuffed out. Nothing about the poor ******* in the truck that hit them and who had a green light.

For a while we had actual enforcement of the no-distractions laws, then it went back to business as usual.

I remember one time I had to take a taxi and the driver was reading a paperback!

I was in traffic court a few weeks ago. The DA was explaining to a driver that recived a ticket for talking on cell phone that it is difficult for the officer to prove he was " engaged in conversation at the time ". So he would have a good chance to beat the ticket.

LEO's please chime in on this. Maybe that is why they don't write or even pull over that much.

That sucks if that's true. Why even waste all the taxpayer money to get the damn laws on the books.............money that could be used to do things like hell I don't know fix the ****** roads that are getting worse by the mile in this country.

because, for at least the past 20 years, it's not been about safety. it's been about probable cause and fishing expeditions... revinue enhancement. if it was about safety, all patrol cars would be marked and parked where everyone could see them; slowing down ALL traffic to the speed limit simply by being there and being seen.

but most extraneous traffic laws are started by legislators wanting to appear to be doing something and sporadically enforced by officers looking for a reason to stop you in the hopes of something bigger.

I often feel like I'm standing in a tornado, screaming, for all the effects my getting pissed off really have, but sometimes you just have to say or do something, and this is such a time. So I just sent the following via the Charlotte Observer's website as a letter to the editor. Who knows if they'll use it, or if the two idiots in question would ever see if if they did, but it made me feel better. [/begin quote]

"I am a motorcycle rider and a "regular" on an internet forum for owners of the model bike I ride. A member posted a link to today's Observer story about the father/daughter pair who both admit to texting and phoning while driving, which I understand is illegal in NC, as it is here in California. The 23-year old woman recently totaled her THIRD car in the last three years as a direct result of this distraction. Both seemed very matter-of-fact in their quoted comments, making statements like "If I'm on the phone talking about something that takes up all my focus, I'm looking straight ahead - but not even seeing what's there," and the father's: "I'm not just going to sit there in the car. I get a lot of work done (while driving)." How irresponsible! How absolutely insane. The father's comment that the rumble strips will divert him back onto the road if he happens to run off justifies him, he believes. "They seem to work, those rumble strips." Well, *****, motorcycles make pretty good rumble strips too, if you happen to roll over one in your carelessness, and you can then prevent doing any further damage TO YOURSELF by simply swerving back into your own lane.

"Your car can kill." That's a bumper sticker distributed by the American Motorcycle Association, and a thought that Mr. Buckley Strandberg of Rocky Mount and his daughter Tyler should focus on, instead of a distracted phone call or text message while risking others' lives."

[/end of quote] Frankly, I'd much prefer to deliver the message face to face with these two Bozos at full volume, but for now, guess this is the best I can do.

I will have been retired as an LEO (MD State Police) for 10 years in May, so things may have changed. But...

I stopped a man on the highway who was reading the sports page of the Baltimore Sun. He had it spread out over his steering wheel and was looking up about every 15 seconds or so, but completely failed to notice the marked car driving next to him. I wrote him for negligent driving, indicating a lack of attention and caution to other drivers.

When we went to court, he pleaded not guilty and stated that since he did not strike anything or anyone, he drove within the law, and therefore was not in violation. The judge agreed.

So as long as you don't actually hit anything, you can do pretty much as you please.

Stupid.

Daddyman, at least you did what you could. It is hard to prove , but I wonder how many accidents would have been avoided by paying attention to driving instead of multitasking?

Maybe there could be a universal color of paint that would denote one of these phone abusers, and we could all carry a paintball pistol and just shoot the car a couple of times. Damn, I hate bad cage drivers (is that redundant).

Many of you know that I drive for a living.

You'd be amazed how prevalent this really is among the driving population. And I live in a state where it is illegal to use a cell phone (except "hands free") while driving.

Merging onto a highway, approaching a signal controlled intersection, driving through a school zone.....it's everywhere. Of course, accidents are not their fault..... :dribble:

*heavy sigh*
