I came across this report this morning and my first reaction was WTF???? The heat must be getting to to him and frying his brain.

Holy skin grafts Batman! He may not die if he goes down but he'll wish he had.

Funny, I heard about this on the radio this morning. Since it was radio, they described him as wearing the Borat swimsuit.

The thing most people dont realize is wearing a well ventilated jacket, gloves, and pants can keep you cooler. The way I explain it to people is, take a hair dryer. Turn it on high and point it directly at your skin. OUCH! Now, do it over the sleeve of a shirt. Still hot, but bearable. The other thing is sweat (this is especially true here in the SW). With skin exposed, to compensate for the heat your body sweats. If youre riding that sweat evaporates immediately, therefore not cooling your body. With a well ventilated jacket, your skin gets a light coating of sweat, and the air coming through the jacket, although hot, blows over the sweat thus cooling your body..

There's more reason to wear ATGATT than safety. Its cooler ;)

One of the issues of the Iron Butt magazine had a pretty good article on wearing gear at high temps. ATGATT is the way to go.

ATGATT indeed! From the 7/27 Billings Gazette:

Falling rock hits motorcycle passenger in Glacier National Park

WEST GLACIER — Glacier National Park officials say a motorcycle passenger was briefly knocked unconscious after being struck by falling rock on the Going-to-the-Sun Road.

Officials say the passenger was hit by a 10- to 15-pound rock at about 2:30 p.m. Tuesday near Triple Arches, west of Logan Pass. The person was wearing a helmet. No other injuries were reported.

The passenger, who was not identified, was taken to Kalispell Regional Medical Center for treatment.

The National Park Service is investigating.

I'm headed to Glacier in a few weeks. I'll watch my back or.. uh.. head

There last Sept. Scary to think about. Strange things happen by/through mountains and mountain passes. A few years ago (maybe 10) not sure who's familiar with this story: Three girls were driving on I90 through Snoqualmie Pass and at approximately 0200 a large rock came down on the road and actually landed on top of their car killing all of them inside.

Truly tragic as they were in their 20's and astronomical odds of directly hitting any vehicle as traffic is pretty low that time of the morning.

Gerry,

Same thing happened in Glacier about 10 years ago: a boulder fell on a car and killed the couple inside. Glacier ain't Disneyland.
