Hi Folks,

Well the planning for the 2007 running of the ALDERs rally is well under way. Despite the wet weather this year we had a good turnout and an exciting event. For more information you can check the site at:

Cheers,

In last years pics it has a picture of a FJR parked with what it looks like a harley oil puddle under it.

What happened there... must be a story to tell?

Yeah!! What the heck happened there? Looks like a total meltdown!
Thanks for bringing that up guys. It wasn't painful enough now I have to re-live it!! :) I had had my oil changed at a dealership the day before the rally. Apparently whoever did it thought that 'finger tight' was enough for a drain plug. I assume he put it in and thought he would put a torque wrench on it later but then forgot. Anyway a short time into the rally I lost the plug. Fortunately I was riding with a buddy who noticed it immediately and I was pulled over and shut off long before the oil finished draining. As you can see I left a huge puddle there on the side of the road. I called CAA (that is AAA - America and RAC - UK) and they had a tilting flatbed there in 40 minutes and got me to a better dealership who bless them took a plug from a floor model 06 FJR to get me back on the road.

I still managed to put in almost 700 of the 1000 km but not enough time in the end.

And the answer is YES...I now change my own oil.

Hey gypsy,

Is Moncton a nice area? Acadian Rider from the STN board hails from there and I would like to visit in the future sometime. Really I was thinking that the Canadian coastline provinces is something that I would like to visit with my wife sometime...

Atlantic Canada is an awesome place to ride. Moncton itself is not great. I kind of hesitate to say that since I don't live in New Brunswick. I am about 2.5 hours away in Nova Scotia. I think quite a number of riders on this board have toured this area. We had a rider from Alberta at the rally last year. He incorporated the ALDERS rally into a whole trip to the area. It is about 1500 miles from Wheaton to Moncton....so that is about a 2 day ride!! :)

If you are interested go to the link below and click on Free Tour Guides. One of the guides is a motorcycle guide but you might as well get them all...hey they are FREE!

there are some absolutely fantastic roads in Atlantic Canada -- if you are coming from the mid-west, i would suggest taking a route thru NH- specifically spending a day or two in the white mountains, then head south east to route 1 following the maine shoreline, starting in Kennebunk. Take it to the canadian border, and then follow the coast thru new brunswick to nova scotia (you'll pass thru moncton which is rather flat ). Once in novascotia, i would recomment any coastal road that leads to the north east cape breton, where you can visit some very specatacular coastal cliff riding. We are fortunate here that there is sooooo much coastal riding to do-- and travelling is cheap and freindly--

if you do decide to visit, please email me, and I'll send you some infol on exactly where to go.

To avoid Portland, ME metro traffic, I would come across Maine from Errol, Gorham, or Conway, NH, to Auburn ME and then down to Coastal Rte 1 in Brunswick.

Give me a call for best routes.
